recover emptied recycling bin

RainColt
Go to solution Solved by maplenet2,

use this: http://www.piriform.com/recuva/download/portable

EDIT: but if the file is overwritten due to use overtime, you cant recover it

Some kid I work with is looking to get some files that he deleted a while back, how do I get those back? Don't say "go into your recycling bin, choose the files you want back and click restore"

Why do you always die right after I fix you?

I don't think you can, I think there are programs that "claim" to work, but they don't.

You don't. If its ''a while back'' they've probably been overwritten already..

You can get them back, I cant remember any names of software to do it because its been a long time since I've done it (only when I've had corrupt file systems) but a google should bring up several options. The likelihood of recovering the data depends a lot on what's happened on the HDD since the data was deleted too because once you delete it from the recycle bin the HDD is free to write over that data.

All the recycle bin does is delete the pointers from the master table, so the data is still there, it's just not seen by the OS. You need a recovery tool like the one @maplanet2 posted.

I was worried that time was going to be an issue, it's been two years but he's also someone who "only uses his computer for Netflix" so I'm hoping his inactivity will be a saving grace or is it pretty unlikely, i trust that he doesn't use his computer he's a truck guy who doesn’t know how to

Why do you always die right after I fix you?
