780 ti vs 980

Go to solution Solved by Tech Lover,

Hei guys,

I know that gtx 980 is better than gtx 780 ti, but i can grab 2 evga gtx 780 ti dual classified for the same price i can buy 2 gtx 970. It is worth to buy those ti's ? First i wanted 2 980's.

Thank you,

its very easy to answer question u got there. i will give my own example. i m not that big budget guys, i got brand new GTX 670 when it came out. gigabyte one. it was awesome. after like 7 months prices dropped and i got another one and got almost the same performance of 780ti.

so u can get excellent performance with dual 780ti BUT, there is a BIG BUT! u will have to take care of:

  • Extra power needed
  • Extra Cooling needed
  • Extra Noise
  • Extra Maintenance
  • Extra Money
  • Extra Headache when in future u might have to sell them BOTH cause they are no longer made by Nvidia and people tend not to buy that stuff (admit it its ground reality, people WILL hesitate!)
  • Extra Issues u might face cause of SLI config.

and many more smaller issues.

according to my Experience, IF U HAVE MONEY, which u surely have, nevertheless u would not be talking of getting 2 780 ti, go for 980. its better, future proof, and im sure u will get a much more discounted one, may be used one in the coming months.  save the extra now, when u feel like u need more GPU power, just search some online or may be in your local computer stores. u will find EASILY no problem.

Trust me, one card is better than 2 even if they give u better performance. its more of a peace of mind kinda thing. rest choice is all yours :)

not all games optimized for SLI

Neither is really worth it. The 780 Ti is a ridiculously powerful card, stunted by a stupidly small amount of vram. The 980 offers a massive price increase and not an awful lot else over the 970 and 290X.

Ignore what the other people in this thread are saying. The 780 ti is more powerful than the 980, but its vram limits its capabilities above 1440p.

And they don't even seem to understand the words they're parroting. The logic they're misquoting is that it's not sensible to double up mid range GPUs (such as the 270X or the 760) in the hopes of matching a high end gpu. However, the most powerful and second most powerful GPU of a generation is nearly always the same chip, with around a 10% performance difference, and a massive 150% price difference. So SLI with two 780s, 290s or 970s as always been the most sensible solution over the 780 TI, 290X and 980.

And ignore what they're saying about SLI not being supported. In 2015, not a single major developer doesn't.

All of this doesn't change my initial statement that neither 780 TI SLI or any number of 980s makes sense right now.

Even at 1440p, I hardly go over 2 or 2.5 GB of VRAM used on my 980.. I wouldn't call 3 GB "stupidly small" by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah, I might question the theoretical longevity of "only" 3 GB of VRAM, but by the time 3 GB is not enough, chances are that you would have upgraded to something much more powerful than either the 780TI or 980. Given the money you save by going with the 780TI instead of the 980, the smaller VRAM is alright..

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

Yeah I revised my post to better reflect what I meant.

What I mean is that that GPU was always potentially capable of being bottlenecked by its vram, and it could have been such a contender as far as 4K gaming goes. If it matched the 290X there a year ago, I doubt we'd still be talking about the 290X as being worthwhile now.

If you can get a 780ti for the price of a 970

id buy it in a heartbeat

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

The 980 is barely better than a 780ti, when comparing an overclocked 980 to a 780ti there is less than a 5% performance gap. As far the the 3gb issue is concerned it only matters if you are playing at 4k. Even 3gb is fine for 90% of games at 4k, especially if you turn off AA. Two 780ti's is a great buy still.

1440p the vram also matters. The newer games are starting to use up more and more. Dying light maxes it, BF4 and Hard line just about

This is a hard decision, but for now, 780ti dual classified is in the lead.

What about ?

On the same price is 290x 8gb, but i read on some forums that amd has problems with their drivers.

I like on 780 ti classified the overclocking potential, almost comparable with 980 g1 gaming overclocked. 1 fps in game, ~ 800 score on firestrike.

Thank you

Get the 2 evga gtx 780ti classifieds. Their still great cards and you can overclock them. I saw one for $280 on ebay but someone bought it before me. So sad. They should still be in warranty and evga has great customer service.
