Changing Motherboard. Does AM3 cpu's work in AM3+ sockets?

So I picked up an old pc a week or two ago at the recycling depot I work at, and I want to replace the motherboard in it with a new one. Upon doing this, will I come into any problems with old motherboard drivers and being able to boot into windows with the new motherboard before installing the new one's drivers? I'm looking for a new motherboard to have DDR3 memory instead of the motherboard it has now which is DDR2.

It has an AM3 socket processor, AMD Athlon x2 250 @3GHz, and the new motherboard I'm looking at is AM3+ so I'm wondering if because the processor is AM3, will it still operate in the motherboard?

Thank you for your help in advance :)

Yes. AM3 CPUs will work in an AM3+ motherboard. You may get driver conflicts.

AM3 cpu's work in AM3+ boards. That board will work for a dual core but I would stay very far away from it if you wanted to use something more modern. Its a decent everyday computer motherboard.

Yup AMD keeps their CPU`s down compatible so you can basically put any "old" CPU into newer mobo`s without any problems !

yeah but i thought they're not electrically compatible.

I'd spend a little more, and get this actually. I had it myself, and the only bad thing I can say is that the onboard audio was not great, but I'm using a dedicated sound card now anyway. Actually, the motherboard still sitting on a shelf behind me..

I don't really need a good motherboard, I just want one that supports ddr3 so I can have faster dimms, and the one I looked at has dual channel which is enough for the 4gb's that I want to put in. This computer is just a server computer that needs a ram upgrade really :P
