So I purchased a r9 290x Lightning from MSI, got it for a little over 300 dollars so I didn't have to go with a 970 (vram issues), and I was wondering is a 750 watt power supply enough to run and overclock this card?

Yes. 750 watts will leave you with plenty of legroom. You should even be able to add another 290x and be just fine.

This is the lightning edition from MSI the  2x8 pin and 1 6 pin power design, just making sure because people keep talking about 850 watts

To be safe, just get a high efficient 1000w PSU to give you breathing room for overclocking.

 

80+ Gold (at least) 80+ Platinum (optimal) 

You don't need a 1000W psu for a single 290X.
