Hey guys, sorry for posting a new thread instead of continuing the old one but i feel like people will see this one better.
So.. A friend of mine (IT Specialist), after being told to buy 280 here on the forum, says 280 is generally bad and had alot of problems. He had asked 2 people that had the same card and both said it was defective. Artifacts and problems with cooling are the said problems. Is that true for 280s or just a really bad luck ?

Just bad luck, the R9 280's are great cards.

It's an anecdote. I've not heard anything like that issue being widespread.

-snip-

Never had an issue with mine, only seen it get to 72C at 40% fan speed. It really just depends on the brand and your luck, if you get a bad one just RMA it. I highly recommend it.

I am looking at this one in particular. http://www.mostbg.com/most/Item.aspx?itemid=51410

Can it be model specific or the sapphire one is good? Because I know for a fact that Sapphire make the best AMD cards.

Any graphics card you buy there is a chance it will be faulty. Luck of the draw...

e.g. back in the day my friend and I both bought PNY Geforce 9600gt cards. Both started artifacting within two months. We RMA them, got replacements. The replacements worked for like 5 years of gaming for both of us... mine only died last year. My friends one probably still works although he doesn't use it anymore. If we had over-reacted we would have concluded that 9600gt was unreliable.

I've hear that the dual-X cards tend to be a little loud. Otherwise the 280 is a great card.

its not uncommon to get a dodgy card. failure rate is about 1% so that's like a 1000 for every 100,000 sold. someone will get one.
