So i just bought a 1tb WD green hdd for a daily backup, and i put it in an old seagate external hard drive case, and i can feel it spinning, and it does the auto driver install, but it doesnt show up under this pc. Just wondering if theres another way to access it Or get it to showup?

Does the drive show up in the BIOS? How are you connecting it to the computer?

Hook it up through SATA and see if it is detected. If you can't see it in This PC, this Microsoft article suggests going to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management and looking for the drive there. Once you get the computer to recognize it, you might have to format it, then try putting it back in the external case and using USB.

i can see it in the bios, still not popping up in this pc, or in computer management

You need to format it before you can use it for storage, and in order to do that you need to find it in Computer Management. Could you post a screenshot of the Computer Management window please?

Hey Etonic,

Could you try the other SATA ports and another computer to see if the drive behaves any differently. If it doesn't, it is possible that the drive is faulty and you would have to replace it.

Try booting from a Windows install disc and see if it is detected there. If it is try creating a partition on the new drive and then cancel the install.

i forget how, but i got it to detect under computer management, and i formatted it and now it setup in the case and working as a daily backup with file history.

i used this site to do it http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/264009-32-format-external-hard-drive-visible

Great to hear that :) If you remember what exactly was that you did, you could post it here and select it as a best answer so other users could see it if they have a similar problem.
