I've recently been looking into going wireless, because although being directly connected is nice I don't like having a 50ft cable stretching across my house. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on router's or even wireless cards for my desktop just so I can shorten the amount of cables I have everywhere.

A power line adapter is the way to go!! No cables only something to plug into your wall. Much better connection that wireless also. I use it and it really helps!

Where is your router placed in relation to your computer?

It's placed in my living room about 40ft away from my room where I have my computer it prolly would be closer but it's pretty  much forced to stay where it's at because of where the line was drilled and because that's where it get's the best connection

Powerline sucks

Not really. My friend had a wireless card and he had a download of 10mb/s. Then he got powerline and went up to 50mb/s....
