Not with G3258. Even with G3258 you will get lag spikes in BF3. Any Pentium will have this issue.

Get an i3 if you don't want horrible minimum frame rates.

If you are going to upgrade at the very minimum get an i5, it's better to save up than waste money on a small upgrade. i5 4440?

Buy an r9 290 for 10 bucks more :

Will it be bottlenecked by the pentium? Yes it will but in the meantime save up some money and get a locked i5 4440. Also what is your current PSU?

A CPU upgrade will be better then a GPU upgrade if the big issue OP has is lag spikes. To many people low resolution low settings gaming isn't that big of a deal. 720p medium isn't any worse then "next-gen" consoles. However huge lag spikes and horrible minimum framerates are annoying for everybody.

Usually 1080p at 60fps is what i consider to be standard.

Can't do 1080p anyways :P Laptop screen is only 1366x768

That depends on where OP lives, in europe an r9 290 is usually €100 more compared to the gtx960

Desktop:     Core i7-9700K @ 5.1GHz all-core = ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate = 16GB HyperX Predator DDR4 @ 3600MHz = Asus ROG Strix 3060ti (non LHR) = Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD = ASUS PG279Q

Notebook:  Clevo P651RG-G = Core i7 6820HK = 16GB HyperX Impact DDR4 2133MHz = GTX 980M = 1080p IPS G-Sync = Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 SSD + Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD

I play all ultra settings on BF3 with my g3258 and R7 260X. I get form low 40's to high 50's.

R7 260X > R7 250

The R7 260X is great for the money if you can get it at $100 or lower.

But i was more surprised with the R7 250 specifically

Im aware that the 260X is more powerful, im just saying its suprising because i run 1080p ultra settings with a not so powerful system.
