Is 144hz worth it

I have been looking at getting a new monitor originally looking at 60hz 4k and 1440p ultrawide displays but after reading several other posts and hearing a lot about 144hz I am now stuck on what monitor to get. I currently use a GTX 760 but will be upgrading to a GTX980 soon. From what I have read 144hz makes everything smoother however I have also been told it is a myth and the difference is only noticeable when you have a 60hz and 144hz monitor next to each other. Unfortunately non of the computer stores where I live have any 144hz monitors on display so I have no way in seeing it for my self so really I just wanted to get some opinions does 144hz really look a lot better than 60hz. In a lot of my games such as battlefield 3 I get around 88-95 frames at ultra at 1080p so end up enabling adaptive vsync to get rid of the really bad tearing.

Custom PC:

144hz will be quite a bit smoother than 60hz, though not quite as noticeable as 30hz to 60hz.

I'd take higher res over >60fps any day.

144 and frankly 120 is some 3D bullshit that people talked themselves into thinking were standards for smooth gaming.

They are capable of 3D, but no one uses them for that. Also 24fps material looks a lot smoother on 120Hz than on 60Hz.

as someone who actually owns a 144hz panel the answer is not as much as 120hz or 85hz. if you were to put 144 vs 120 you would not see a dramatic difference.

you will notice far smoother vertical and horizontal transitions in 24fps media and in 3d applications

The displays I have been looking at are the BenQ BL3201PT, Rog swift and the LG 34UC97 out of these three which would be the better option for gaming mostly FPS and Racing games and some Photoshop/Video Editing

Well the ROG Swift is a Bad Ass If you wanna save some cash when compared to the other monitors your looking at. Clearly you have no spending limit so yea the LG Curve would be sick Aswell. Idk about the other I never had a Benq before.. Of those two id have to personally go with the Swift to save cash and because its got a red ring that glows at the bottom..

Case: Corsair 760T White PSU: Corsair AX1200i Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Formula CPU: I7-4790k Cooler: Stock Cooler Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2400mhz GPU: Asus Strix GTX 970

I have started looking at VA panels as well as these seem to be in-between TN and IPS when it comes to response time and colour accuracy so seem to give the best of both worlds for gaming and content creation and they are usually a bit cheaper than IPS as well. I'm looking for a good monitor to go with my new build which is a long project at the moment I am still building the desk part of it as it is one of those desk mod pc's with the pc inside the colour theme is going to be red as I have done blue in the past and wanted a change in colour theme this time round.
