Hey,

So I am really struggling with some school issues. What is my issue you may ask?

I skip school, sometimes for days, weeks or even a month. I've never liked school, I have friends so that's not the issue.

I'm a happy guy but ever since I can remember I've always really struggled with getting myself to school. I hate it.

I know education is important and I will go no where without it but that doesn't seem to bother me. I dropped out of high school

about a year ago for a year when I owned a software "company" at the age of 15. I was able to support myself but had issues with Paypal

since I am under age and have had some large issues with them in the past so I quit and went back to school. I'm sitting here after getting a call

from the school board saying I've missed three weeks already. I've unplugged the phone jack and now I'm just waiting for my parents to find out and take away all my shit for a while. Sometimes I still don't go to school even after they take my shit away.

Possible cause? Well, I really like getting things done. I feel like I've wasted time if I don't and when I go to school I sit there completing work but it leaves me tired for the rest of the day. I end up doing nothing, when I stay home I just progress and get stuff done. It feels really good. Now don't call me a lazy ass because I do work hard, I work as hard as I can at what ever. It's just school...

Does anyone else have this issue?

Thanks.

School straight up bores me. I don't really skip it, but am very tempted a lot..

Grades were not an issue the last 4 years or something, but they are.. Alright..

I am annoyed by others who are slowing me down too..

Postponing going to bed at the moment too...

Anyways, just go to school. Challenge yourself in different ways and try to get better at stuff.

School may be annoying, but you will need that piece of paper later in life.

Stop skipping and just do it I guess.

i pretty much have the same issue. i get unmotivated when what i'm doing seems useless. my trick is to work on side projects all along, and make school tasks "more interesting".

My grades are decent, never really aimed for A's as I kinda just got through it efficiently.

I've been forcing myself for the last 3 years to go and it really drains my energy. I'll try going tomorrow.

I do need that piece of paper, thanks.

You sound like an interesting guy. I just don't think school suits people like you.

I have a similar hatred for school but I somehow just about manage to turn up and do alright.

It makes me really tired too but now I know why (it is a medical thing). Maybe you could get that looked into?

I'm going through a similar thing right now. (And i did in the earlier years of school too)

I just want to do my tasks and move forward. But the teachers have certain times they want stuff done. So i always end up waiting.. I can't stand that

And i've been out in reality. So some of the stuff in school feels soooooo pointless. Thankfully i have managed to not skip school. Although it is tempting.

I have applied for a job though. So i'll see what route i'll take

School if for people to educate themselves so they can find something they are interested in. But some people, have already found what they love, and learning about different useless subjects in school becomes pointless and boring.

I feel like that too, but school is so important if you want to have any big opportunities for higher education.

I go to a retarded school now, basically where kids go that have drug/alcohol issues or teen pregnancy.

I go here because we can work at any pace we want, I thought it would help but honestly it didn't.

Nothing has really worked for me and it sucks. Maybe I should apply for a job but I'll be that guy without an education.

I really want to go to college though.

I have/had the same issue. Throughout Highschool I was miserable and hated going pretty much every day. I felt like a caged animal, I had many things that I wanted to do but I couldn't(constructive things too). I got to the point where I was in advanced classes, but I was bored because it was either no challenge or I had zero interest. I missed a lot of days too, but my parents made me drive my brother and sister to school, so I really didn't have a choice to not go(but I still ditched, hue hue hue). I even wrecked my ACT score because I had slept through it instead of trying (won't re take that POS either). My advice is to keep your chin up and focus on graduating, since you can do whatever you want after that. I've had some life issues but I am back in school(college), but its nice since I can take it at the pace I want and I have more of a choice than what I did in highschool.

I really want to go to university. So i guess we'll both have to tough it out if we want to get there.

I am currently that guy without an education. But if you've got experience and some drive you can get by with that too. (Although it's not easy)

Unfortunately i have debts that are preventing me from doing anything i really want to do so i applied for a job. And if i get it i'll pay my debts before going back to school.

My school is a bit of a mixed bag. There are some adults and some younger people but they are generally alright

I know the feeling of being forced, sometimes my mom had days off so I just walked around my city for hours under school was over. I did that 6 or 7 times.

I'm not in advanced classes since my school doesn't offer them but honestly I don't think I'm that smart anyway. I'm just like bored and sick of it all.

It's almost my last year, suppose to be but since I'm behind I'll probably be graduating next year. I don't think I'm depressed either.

I was interested in asking if I may how you found working? You mentioned that you 'owned' a company for a time. How did you feel about it?

As a side note I also suffered from a little of the same while in higher education. It was at times far too easy for me and quite frankly bored me to death to the point I lost focus/motivation. I also found the company of my 'peers' frustrating and irritating. I was years older basically and thus had very little in common.

In general though I wouldn't be too concerned about being 'that guy without an education' because if you can be lucky/opportunistic enough and gain the experience or position then it's not going to overly matter a great deal. Some of the most gifted/talented people I have worked with have lacked a formal education/qualifications while managing to have attained much higher positions than me at the time.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

If you get up and think "Should I go to school today?" Then that is what you should work to change, Nobody loves studying but do it, because they have to. I for the most part dislike work (I love some bits) but it is not a derision whether to go, it is I *have* to go. Same with college or high school. If you are asking your self whether or not to go to school, you should probably seek help from a school counselor or other professional. They can further narrow down why this is happening. It is often caused by some sort of other root problem. Best of luck man. Believe it or not I know the feeling!

It was great, I worked hard every day. No issues there, the idea of making money and connecting with customers while working is the best feeling ever.

My peers at this school don't bother me, they're just kids who wear ebay chains and smoke dandelions from their gardens. Maybe I should just apply for a job like best buy, get into the geek squad or something since that would be fun. Yeah I know a few people who are smart as balls without an education but I'm really not that smart which worries me and I don't think I'll do very well but then again I for some reason don't care even after stating I care.

Let's face it, education is simply not for everyone and there's absolutely no shame in that. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a fool - if it were then there'd be no need for things like these:

Although I did well it was one of the worst struggles of my life to date and one of the only things to get me through it was getting a part time Software Engineering job (a real job) in place of the joke internship halfway though - a taste of the finish line so to speak.

You were obviously smart enough to be successful with your company... Moreover you are young enough to be able to afford the time in order to explore your options properly. Why not be pragmatic about things - apply Occam's Razor and see where you end up? You might be surprised.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

No, you're not. I love school (at least where I'm at) but I can see where OP is coming from. I was expecting a lot more people to be like "get back to school, lazy", but no, everyone's been totally understanding, which is really cool.

I'm a strong believer that education is the most important thing for you. The more you learn, the better off you'll be later on. how you go about doing that doesn't really matter, so long as you're doing it.

OP, I don't blame you for hating school in this instance. North America's school systems are on the skids, it's just so terrible.

Honestly the advanced classes at my old HS were just the regular classes renamed to make people feel better. I compared my work to my peers and it was the same shit lol. I missed too much work and BS'd too much of it to get the grades I did(B's and above), so I think its just the wonderful work of the ghetto school I went too(I grew up in a rough area). Because of me being me, I had to take some of the "special" classes too, so don't feel too bad. I was bullied for being in those classes, so that is one of the many reasons why I am such a messed up person today. At the point where you are at though, you are soo close to finishing school. The last year felt like week too me, it was just a blur.

I imagine that if I was taught right I would have liked school more. The teachers were boring and so were the topics, so it was hard for me(Ms. ADHD jittery hands) to stay paying attention. I love learning about things that I care about, but I only had that experience with two of my classes(Photo manipulation class and Carpentry FTW).

Cause a lot of us are in the same boat.  Ever since college started I haven't really enjoyed school, HS was fun, even during junior year where we were all taking SATs, APs, and worrying over whether or not we got a 4.3GPA or 4.5, it was fun.  At this point I'm just here to get a degree.

I feel you. I trudged through high school just aiming for Bs and upwards. I'm only here in Japan because of several loopholes I had to jump through. I technically graduated last year but I wasn't old enough to go to college, so I shot for a year over here. I'm sorry, but the educational system here takes the one in the US, chews it up, spits it out and goes about its day. It's not even that hard, if you understand the language enough. The only difference in how hard it is is the excessive amount of dedication that the students have. I'm not aiming for the sky like a lot of people at school do at the behest of their parents. All I want to do is get through, grab my diploma, find a university somewhere that will take me, and major in computer science. Computer specialists are in such high demand right now that where you went to school is mattering less and less, just so long as you understand what's involved.

Yep... I'm on my final 2-3 semesters of college right now...

Thing is, we have a group oriented subject right now... and the moment I vanish from campus/go offline/go dark, the workflow stops on work where I am not essential...

Aside from that, I'm having a hard time summoning some motivation...
