So i OC'd my 970 to +170 on the core clock and +250 on the mem clock and.... its stable. I ran valley for a bit and then played some games and it's stable! Except for TF2... After about 5-10 minutes of a match it freezes and a message saying "Oh Nvidia driver hurr durr has stopped working" but I can play FC4 maxed for hours and nothing will happen.

TL;DR OC works in the vast majority of games but not in TF2

scale the OC back 10 and try again, if this still crashes  then scale back 10 on the memory, repeat until stable in TF2, or increase voltage and see if that helps.

running my 295x2 at 1080 mhz on the core and still stable in TF2 so idk.

Not everything accepts OC. I've had a +210 mhz stable after hours of benchmarks, as well as various games. But when doing folding/boinc GPU use, it crashed as soon as 5 min. I had to back off to +182.

But then, I fired one really old game I had. It caused a stupid problem, where my card would downclock to 405... and never go up again. Even after closing the game, and opening something demanding, it would still be stuck at 405. Even at +1mhz, I'd have this issue, while at stock settings, it would never happen.

It might have something to do with the HL engine. I have similar issues with CS:GO where I can get what I feel are stable OCs but when i play CSGO itll get video stutter and crashing.

Sometimes i troll...

at first I thought it was a driver issue since I hear that 347.25 is kinda messy. It's weird because out of the 30~ games I tried ONLY TF2 isn't stable

I thought so too.. Until I played HL 2 and Blue shift (even if blue shift might be a different engine entirely) as stated above its ONLY TF2...

Maybe my card doesn't like hats :P

I'd just make a separate profile on afterburner and just turn it off when you don't need it.

its not like you need to oc to play team fortress.

the steam fps counter maxes put at 200fps, I get constant 200fps on team fortress 2 with everything maxed out at 4k on a 2gb 770

Try to framecap TF2. Hopefully that lets you dodge the crash.

hmm yeah I guess I could try capping it to 121fps in the console

i already have a 2 profile in afterburner. i know i don't need an OC for source games in general. It's not like I only play TF2 but I find it annoying to open up afterburner and then select the OC'd profile. Not trying to come off as a lazy bum but still

Some games refuse to run with ANY overclock, as I said, Payday 2 as far as I can remember will crash on a +1MHz overclock (in my testing).

Really? Nvidia cards automatically overclock through GPU Boost 2.0 nor do I get issues playing Payday 2 on my OC card.

Either way it's something that the OP would want to check as it may be an issue for them!

It might happen to you too and many others yet it is far from normal. It might be common in this sense, it might. But it is certainly not normal. :D
