Still man :

1-5970

2- 5870

3- 5850.

Top tier anyways.

Oh I know. I just wanted to laugh at the horrifying launch price.

Still I remember the 5850 and 5870 selling out FAST. My local microcenter ran out of them in the first day of launch and didn't get any in stock for 2 weeks.

The nostalgia of these cards man:

I miss the days where it was commonplace to have random swords on computer hardware.

All the info you need right here http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_960_STRIX_OC/29.html

Pay attention to the resolutions because at 4k the 290x is significantly better than the 970 but not so much at 1080p.

970 is marginally faster than R9 290 and 780. All 3 provide good framerates at 1080p now maxed out on ultra. Considering you are willing to go down to medium settings in future they should last 4 years. Educated guess.

He looked badass IMO!

Now we get a slick looking brushed aluminium and shit.

Miss the old days.

1080p- Overkill, can max out any game at 60+fps.

1440p- Sweet spot, can max out most games and still get 40-60fps.

2160p- Not perfect, could play most games on lowest/medium setting with AA off and get 40ish fps. (2x 970's are ideal at 2160p).

^ this I have one and it is a total over kill for 1080p, it am glad dsr exist because otherwise I would feel like I am wasting the card, I doubt it will have problems with 1080p for quite a few years

it is really a 1440p card,

*2x 290X's

290X CF performs better at 4K, and 3.5 GB of vram could be a problem in the future

maybe in the future, but as has been stated MANY times, thatr last .5 MHZ  is very hard to get to, the program rain to test the vram was a benchmark and should not be viewed as real world results.

Maxing out any game at 60+ is not overkill.

60+ can mean a lot of things. The 970 can achieve well over 100fps in most games at 1080p.

Nothing wrong with that.

The point is, that's overkill for most people. I never said being 'overkill' is a bad thing nor is there anything wrong with it. The OP asked for information regarding the GTX 970 at 1080p and I gave it to them.
