I'm building a pc for me and my brothers and I've tried using psu calculators so I can see how big of a powersupply I need, but the first one I used was telling me I needed like 1000 which i knew wasn't right, one was telling me 600 which seemed like it made sense but to be safe i tried some more and one told me 500, another 550, another like 400 and a few didn't work at all. So i'm kinda worried about picking the right size. So is 500watts enough for this build
cpu- amd fx 6300

gpu- gtx 750ti

ram- 8gb 1600mhz

hardrive- 1TB western digitial

disc drive- none

It's more than enough though I recommend getting an I3 over the FX. The i3 stomps FX in gaming

A 300w would be more than enough in all honesty, though personally I would go for a quality PSU around the 400w - 500w range, The Enermax revolution x 430W Gold would be perfect, reasonably priced, gold rated efficiency, modular design, and looks pretty cool too.

i've been hearing that I should do that but i'm worried about pricing. I am on a pretty tight budget.

Give me your total budget and I will make you a build

Do I need to include peripherals/OS/monitor?

No, I have basic peripherals and all. My budget is 350-400, leaning to the 350 side but if it has to be 400 it has to be 400, also you don't need to include a case, I already have one that my dad gave me from his old build. Also that is in U.S dollars.

Great all-round build. Does quite well at 1080p but is slightly over budget

This one is about $370 after a MIR on the GPU but is less value compared to the build above:

wow I didn't think I could get such a value with and intel cpu. I've been on  the fence about it while because of price but it seems worth the extra few if it's has good of a performance differnence everone says it is

AMD has nothing on intel at the moment in terms of CPU's. THey are betting everything they have on the upcoming Zen architecture. If zen fails then AMD might as well just focus on APU's and GPU's

I always kinda figured they didn't have anything going for them cpu wise except for being a decent budget cpu. Apparently not.

FX is only good for cheap render farms, that's it, nothing else

so will the r9 270 make an really difference as far as power consumption goes?

It's relatively quite a bit more but it's still not a whole lot. A 500W PSU will have heaps of headroom with the setups that I linked
