What category is this cable?

Almost impossible to say for sure. Best thing to do is to do a speed test using two computers or a laptop and a computer.

However, frankly, for the several inches long that the data has to transmit, Cat5 may be fine for Gigabit Ethernet.

If you're worried, go to your closest discount computer store (Or order online) and buy a short Cat5e or Cat6 cable.

I want to upgrade to a gigabit router so I can fully take advantage of my internet speeds.

Last year in one class, we made ethernet cables. They are barely long enough to connect my router to my modem. I swapped one instead of a 3 meter long cable to reduce cable clutter.

But, since I don't want this cable to bottleneck my connection, I want to know whether it is Cat 5 or 5e.

(Is it even possible to tell what category it is from these pictures? I've been searching for a while now and I have no idea.)

This is the text on it:

Cat2 is not a thing. It goes: Level 1, Level 2, Cat3, Cat 4, Cat 5, Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6a, ...

Level 1 and 2 are not usable anymore on modern systems, Cat3 and 4 only have 2 pairs.

It's at least Cat5, more can't really be said because the part where the Cat is marked is not on that cable.

First of all, thank you for all the answers.

I will definetly try to test the speed, but if it turns out to be a bottleneck, I have a longer Cat5e cable that was originally used there. I just swapped them because I wanted to use the one I made and this was the perfect (and probably the only) use case.
