I am about to upgrade my GPU from a XFX HD 6870 card to an R9 model. I am currently looking at the XFX R9 280X-TDFD or the XFX R9 290A-EDFD. The 280x has the same setup as my current card which allows me to have 4 monitors plugged in (2 dvi and 2 mini DP). The 290 only has 2 dvi and 2 DP. But the specs say it can run 6 monitors. How does that work? I would love to have the extra ram this card gives over the 280x but I want to keep my 4 monitor setup. The 290 is about $60 more expensive as well.

DP -> 3 DP (That's probably how you would achieve 6 monitors)

What they mean is: card can handle 6 monitors. But most designs dont provide 6x video I/O.

Thia one has 5 for example http://m.ebuyer.com/580278

I went with a 290 for my wife, waiting on it to ship atm, because it's the new architecture and not a reused design from 3+ years ago. Plus the price is right
