Best HDD

Hello

I am going to buy a new gaming rig and was wondering wath hdd is the best?

I would need 2 HDD's...

2Tb for games (7200RPM for faster loading)

1Tb for data (5400RPM)

I have a ssd chosen a for the os (will be windows8).

WD Black 2TB, WD Green 1TB.

Both are good drives for what you will use them for.

I personally like WD(Western Digital). I would get a Blue or Black for games and a Green drive for data.

It doesn't say what RPM the Green drive is for some odd reason, but it's suppose to be used as low powered storage, which is what you will be using it for. :)

If you're feeling up to it, you could run 2 WD Caviar Black drives in RAID 0 for uber awesome loading times! As for the 1TB drive for data, you might want a 2TB WD Green drive because the price difference isn't that great between the 1TB and the 2.

Well with that kind of perception you might as well get a 3TB!

Yea I would also recommend a 2tb WD Caviar Black and 1tb WD Caviar Green because WD has a very good reputation on their hard drives.

In the specs it will say "RPM: IntelliPower"

Now this is what IntelliPower means according to WD:

IntelliPower — A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate,

and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance.

Which is of course a very vague explanation and still doesn't really tell you at what speed it runs.

But as far as i know, WD says all the drives have a speed between 5400prm and 7200rpm depending on the SKU.

In practice it more like between 5400 and 6000 though.

Each SKU will undergo its own tests to determine the best speed to get the power consumption it needs for the caviar green spec.

So a 1TB may spin at 5400, and a 2 platter 2TB may be running at 5600, and then a 4 platter 2TB may be at 5500.
