looking to update my gpu

You have a very up to date GPU. Why would you want to switch to a 970 or 980?

currently have a sapphire r9 290 trix.. what would you guys recommend.. thinking about maybe switching to nvidia still undecided. looking to spend between 300 and 600 usd

don't really like the 290 overclocking isint great and hate the colors.. might just paint it

 

4770k corsair 860w psu

Uh... don't upgrade. Save your money, wait for the new AMD cards. The best you could do right now is to grab a 2nd 290, but if you don't like it.... meh...

 

Hold your cash until "Q2 2015". It will be worth it.
