I have the R7 260X 1GB core edition and after seeing Linus his video about thermal compound and how it can be bad on cheaper cards. I realized I have one of the cheapest R7 260X cards on the marked, so I wanted to know if mine can have some bad thermal compound on it.

After running FurMark for 4 minutes at 100% fan speed my card was up to 87C so I stopped the test.

What are your temps on the R7 260X and what model do you have?

Thank's for the help

;)

I don't have a 260x but I am sure that the temps are a bit high

87C for a card of that caliber is not good.

Haven't tried furmark yet but full load temps on mine sit between 60-70C (32-40C ambients) using a custom fan curve...

I'm using a Sapphire R7 260X OC 2GB DDR5 2x DVI (the longer one) at 1250MHz core and 1800MHz VRAM clocks...

Let's not forget FurMark is meant to stress cards impossibly hard. You'll never hit that in daily use. What are your load temps on actual gaming runs?

When gaming I hit temp of about 70C with my custom fan curve

That's very high. Maybe replace thermal paste and under-clock?

Is your case airflow good?

I am using the Corsair 230T with all 3 fans at about 40% / 45%

87C for a card of that caliber is not good.

The cooler is quite small. The heat sick is only under the fan

Try testing using Heaven Benchmark and Valley Benchmark.

Haven't tried furmark but used both Heaven and Valley...

Same readings... Highest temp it reached was 71C on my custom curve... (can't run tests again right now... I'm not at home...)

I'm using this card to be exact:

That is quite a bigger cooler then the one I have. I don't know your fan curve but if it is not really slow then my temps don't look that high

Furmark is a stress test software right? Maybe your GPU temperatures becomes high because the usage is very high, you should try playing some games. Maybe the GPU runs cooler, or just bump the fan speed to the right (not curve one), it makes the GPU louder but at least it helps the GPU cooler because the fan speed runs at full speed at all times.

For now, try cleaning out the dust, removing your side panel and pointing a fan at the card... see if that improves temps...

Case airflow can also affect GPU temps...

When you open MSI Afterburner, you should see the fan setting (slider). Set the auto off and bump the fan speed all the way to the right (100), if you don't mind the noise. That's what I'd do to my GPU if my room is warmer than usual.
