I bought a used pc and the guy before me had overclocked the 3930k to 4.16 which is fine but

it is holding that speed all the time even if i'm just browsing the internet

 

CPU: i7 3930k

 

motherboard: MSI x79A-GD45 Plus

thats normal ? why would want to change it ?

on my last pc i had a i7 920 and when i overclocked it to 3.6 and it could go down to like 1 if i didn't do anything

What is your power setting in Windows? If it's set to High Performance, it won't clock down.

it was on balanced

so i switched it to power saving and still the same

Can you change the frequency of the CPU in the BIOS? (something like 4.15GHz) If that doesn't work, I reckon your issue is something with the BIOS.
