Ram vs ssd.

Go to solution Solved by Dimwitted,

A) Don't get hung up an reliability. There hasn't been any difference between competing drives for failure rates in the current drives. Rather amazing actually. Intel, Crucial, Samsung, OCZ, SanDisk, Patriot, Adata, Corsair... it doesn't seem to matter about failure rates. B) The "value line" from Intel isn't very Intel. Hynix NAND and 3rd party controller. Absolutely nothing wrong with the 530, but also nothing special, certainly not worth paying a premium just because it says Intel on the outside. C) Size very much matters. Getting something cheap in a 256gb is different than something cheap in 128gb. I would very much recommend going with the 256gb of something. Here is where I would go with the Crucial MX100 but there's been some awesome deals lately like with the M550 which is a better drive. Watch your vendors. 530 and 730 series have had good sales as well. Grab them quick if you can.

Definitely go with the added ram too. Between a new ssd and more ram you'll think that you have a brand new machine. Have fun!

I do a lot of auto cad work and I have a decision to make. An Intel 530 or 730. Or more ram. I currently have 8GB and I use about 80-90 percent of it on my larger models. But the ssd would help load said larger models... If I get the 530 I could get more ram but how much faster is the 730 than the 530. And no I am sticking with Intel because of the reliability don't offer up 850 evo.

"And no I am sticking with Intel because of the reliability don't offer up 850 evo" I've seen more Intel SSD's die than Samsung. Anywho, an SSD is an SSD, so get the 530 and more ram. You're not going to notice a difference between the 530 and 730.

You won't really notice any speed diff. Hell you could probably throw in an MX100 and be perfectly fine.

If you want true reliability you should probably looking at Intel's more prosumer drives. But honestly, the main difference I believe is warranty period.
