Hey everyone :)

Just a quick question.

I was just playing COD:AW with my 970 and had GPU-Z open on my other monitor. I was getting really bad issues with the cut scenes as in stuttering and extreme tearing, (The latter I would not have expected to exist since they are pre-rendered) So I observed my overclock  through afterburner, and the card was reaching the set overclock of 1540MHz core and 7010 on the memory, but in GPU-z the bus interface keeps swapping between PCI 1.1 and 3.0 at 8.0x but never reaches the full 16x, (Although I assume that is because of my sound card and Wireless card).

Why does the bus speed keep swapping out between 1.1 and 3.0 link? Is this normal (as in power saving)? If so, is there any way I can force it to stay at the full PCI 3.0 and not swap to the lower 1.1?

Thanks.

ASRock z97 Extreme4, Intel Core i5 4690k @4.4GHz and GTX 970 G1 Gaming

Strange, which slot do you have it in? I've got my G1 Gaming in the top PCIe 16x slot of my MSI Z97-G55 SLI mobo with an i5 4690K and it works perfectly fine.

Also, how are you powering the GPU? (Straight up 8 pin and 6 pin? molex to 6 pin? etc..) and with what PSU?

the first full 16x slot, although as I said, I assume its knocking it down to 8x due to other add-in cards, its the swapping between pcie 1.1 and 3.0 that I dont understand.

as for psu, using a Corsair HX750 gold psu with dedicated 6 pin and 8 pin power connectors, no molex.

Very strange, if you have multiple other devices taking up PCI/PCIe lanes then that could possibly cause it.

i know the z97 chipset only nativly supports 16 lanes, so I know the gpu wouldn't run at the full 16x due to my wifi card and sound card will take up 2 lanes, so next best would be 8x. its just the bus type swapping between the 3.0 standard and the 1.1 standard, if anything I would have thought it swapping to 2.0 not as low as 1.1.

Thanks for your help anyway :)
