Best OCer would be the HOF card.

It is the 970 out of the box and being a HOF it can go far.

Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. 1) Dont buy 970

2) buy 290X or wait for the 3xx series

3) be happy

I say that because of the memory issue, and I am not going to recommend a 970 to anyone until nvidia fixes this.

When they do fix the problem, I'd get a G1 Gaming from gigabyte. They have an awesome cooler and a process for picking out the best overclocking chip.

What is the gtx 970 memory problem???

Basically, a problem with the 4gbs of memory. According to Linus, the problem is that after getting to 3.5gb of Vram usage, the memory goes a lot slower than normal, causing frame rate drops.

But that's a pretty weird instance. No official word from Nvidia, aside for "looking at it". Also, it's a lot like coil whine, in a sense that not all cards are affected by it in the same way (some are worse, some aren't).

Just a question should i wait the R9 390X (or R9 380X) or buy gtx 970.

If you plan on buying something soon, I think it's worth going for the 970. According to AMD, new stuff is coming in Q2 2015, but that's still a bit far away. It might get delayed, it might not be all that better than what we have now, it might be super expensive, (it might have a 300W tdp) who knows?

And when we get the 3xx series, there might just be a "980ti is coming in a few months!" announcement, and then we are back at the "should I wait?" question.

Uh.... With that kind of setup, you could actually go for a much higher GPU config than a 970. Grab the cheapest 970 you can find out of these 4:

  1. MSI Gaming 4G
  2. Gigabyte Windforce OC
  3. Gigabyte G1 Gaming
  4. Asus Strix

Then, when you get some extra money laying around, get a 2nd 970. Maybe when the 3xx launches, 970 prices should drop.

R9 300 will be out very soon, but we don't know much about it just like what you know.

GTX970 is currently a great upgrade right now, I think Nvidia will fix that shame mem issue soon but I never see my mem usage goes beyond 2GB (coz i'm 1080p user)
