This is what I have

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/dizzyinzo/saved/YD9Ff7

The plan is to run the 750ti I have right now for a little bit. Then sell my current computer to buy a better graphics card [maybe a 970?]

One thing missing on the build is a 650w evga 80+ gold power supply.

Do not get an FX-8320 for a gaming rig. You'll face bottlenecks the immediate second you upgrade to a GTX 970.

I have a GTX 780, and used to have an FX-8350. Even at 4.9GHz, the bottleneck was very bad versus what I have with my i7-4790k.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

He chose the 3tb HDD I'm just assuming he needs that much space. And the Corsair LS happens to be the cheapest ssd right now (after a rebate), and it's only $10~ more than the cheaper SSD that I would consider (before rebates).

For gaming 8gb of Ram is still plenty. Theres really no reason to spend an additional $50 on an MPower board. The Corsair LS is only $5 more than the MX100 but is quite a bit cheaper after he gets the rebate money from the LS back. And presumably he needs more than 1tb of storage.

This is what I would do if you were to keep the 750ti and buy the GPU down the road:

The S340 already has two 140mm fans in it, so move the top one to the front intake and place the separate one as a front intake as well, so you have positive pressure. The R9 290 can handle pretty much any current game at 1080p on max settings, and is well situated for the future. A GTX 970 instead isn't a bad choice, but is much more expensive for practically no benefit at 1080. Only go GTX 970 if you game at higher resolutions or higher refresh rates than 60hz.

If you don't want to bother with selling the 750ti, you have a budget that can actually just buy a good system right now outright. That would be this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($179.97 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($71.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($67.50 @ Newegg)

Pretty much the same deal, just no SSD and a worse CPU. The CPU can still handle everything at 60fps and the SSD is more of a luxury feature in a gaming rig (boot/load times don't help with in-game FPS), so it's not really at a real-world performance disadvantage, but the first build is certainly better.

So what I'm getting from all of this is to get the i5-4690k. I haven't had a chance to look at the motherboard proposed but I'm in love with the nzxt h440 in white and wanted to do a white blue scheme. That's what the blue fans are for so that the blue light will leak out of the intake ports on the front of the case and into the main area of the case.

As well the psu I was looking at is https://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-120g10650xr

Is that enough juice even with a 970?

What are the main difference between the 970 and the 290x 4gb?

The MSI Z97 Krait is a black/white board, so a perfect choice. I would go for cheaper fans and a blue LED strip instead as it would be better and cheaper. As for a 970 vs. 290x, an overclocked 970 can achieve 290x speeds but the 290x is hotter and less efficient (650w is enough for two 970s, whereas you'd want 850w for two 290xs). With that said the 970 is also having a VRAM issue right now (thats still being worked out)...so

As for a good PSU, the EVGA G2 750w is one of the best PSUs there is (Corsair AXi is better as well as EVGA P2/T2, but all of which are much more expensive).

I wanna stick with just one gpu. So the 290x would be best?

At this very moment, until the VRAM issue on the 970 gets sorted out, yes.

in your opinion should I just run my 750ti until the issues with the 970 are fixed?

and is 650 enough for one card?

350w is enough for a build with a single 970, 550-600w is enough for two. 550-600w is enough for a single 290x and 850w for two.

And I'd consider waiting if efficiency/heat output is important to you.

why the h105 over the h110?

H110 works too. The H110 is a normal 280mm rad whereas the H105 is a thick 240mm rad. Either or, just not the H100i as both outperform the h100i in temps and noise levels.

So this is what i have decided

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NnPPcf

I went with the h100i because corsair link appeals to me... i know i am sacrificing some performance but i don't even plan to over clock.

I went with windows 8.1 because i read online that i was easier on the CPU as far as gaming is considered.

1) is there a way to just buy all of this through pcparkpicker or is that figment of my imagination?

2) is that RAM okay?

3) any other tips before i hit buy

If you don't plan to overclock then the stock cooler is fine, and you should go with a Xeon E3 1231 V3 instead (the Xeon doesn't come with a stock cooler though -- so you should get something like a Cooler Master hyper 212 for it).

No, PCpartpicker is just a site to compare prices.

Ram is good.
