Do you regard ASRock as crap?

The name sounds cheap to me. I just dont feel right about them so I have not used one before.

I had experience w/ 3 AsRock mobos (stated below). All of them decent. In fact, I'm using one in my current rig :)

It'll be fine, but if it isn't then take it as a lesson to test components as soon as you have them, and not 3 months later. If it is broken you'll be able to get a new one from AsRock though.

trust me!  I usually do, but laziness got the better of me....oh! well!!!  it's not like I spent an exuberant amount of money on it.  I hope Asrock are easy to deal with if I have to replace my mobo.  I only bought the Asrock extreme 4 because of all the good reviews and Tom's hardware choice award.  We'll see I guess!!!

I wouldn't say crap, but I find if I'm going to spend a crap-ton on a build, I want parts I can really rely on, and if I have issues I can easily get customer service. (In theory)

 

I usually like sticking to companies I've had good experiences with. IE: Evga/Asus/Corsair

they made the best P45 motherboard back in the day for overclockers

talks about having trouble overclocking because the  fsb is on 1 menu and the multi is on another menu, never had that with another board and would make overclocking tedius.

he also talks about the auto overclocking creating lots of blue screens, that to me sounds bad, the auto overclocking on allot of asus msi and gigabyte boards will maybe have 1 blue screen and then fall back a smidge.

the board looks horrendous (most of them do)

you only get 5 sata ports at wierd angles, ive never known anyone to use all 6 ports but thats not an excuse to slack off.

i bet if i find another review itll be pretty much the same, not worth the price i say, sure its cheaper than the competition but say you needed a board for an fx8350 to overclock on and have 2 way sli/crossfire and you got this you'd run into numerous problems as mentioned, the logic behind cheaping out on a board is the same as cheaping out on a case-its fine if you dont care about your pc because its not menat to be high spec.

if you want a cheap CIT tin foil case, a no name brand powersupply a hitachi drive a pentium/athlon dual core and a £30 graphics card sure its fine, but no self respecting enthusiast is going to buy sub-par components.

when biostar make a good color scheme with all the functionality of the big 3 (nearly 4) manufacturers with none of the issues i read about then they just like asrock will be in the good books.

gigabyte-(the UD3, 5, 7 series is good)

asrock-(getting better by the day)

foxconn-they worked...for a while, nothing special, very OEM to me...

on the topic of asrock (and BS) i have a theory they're more reliable with intel chips, this may be because intel chips being ahead on the fab front require less voltage so there may be less ripple/stress on the vrm circuitry and hence the boards have less issues. with something like a phenom/bulldozer/OC'd3930k im guessing issues will arise at some point.

Asrock boards to me are boards that are functional for normal use.
