I'm a little overweight. I'm 173 cm tall and 80 kilogramms. Male...I know I ain't tall...=/ Fuck genetics...

Condition:

Use of NO steroids or any other sort of non-natural substance that is taken in order to gain advantage in terms of muscle growth

So, I gotta shitty shape. I want to lose most of my useless bodyfat and gain muscles that gets me in the right shape. By right shape I mean V-shaped. Yeah yeah I know it all goes down to genetics like shape of the skeleton and blahblah. I don't care. I want to build muscles AND lose fat - I don't care how big they can get - because as far as I'm concerned it's somehow related to genetics as well....not sure.

People have been telling me not to lift weights if I want to lose bodyfat. They've been saying go for the cardio exercises that'll make you lose weight quickly.

But I'm not sure if they are right? Could anyone be kind and explain this? Does lifting weights or working with weights in general make you lose fat or not?

Or is it cardio? How could I lose that extra 20 kilogramms of bodyfat that I have now and then gain muscles without the use of any steorid(-ish things)?

Thank you.

I know it might sound ridiculous that I'm asking such things on a tech forum but this is the most lively (my English is kinda off sry I've no idea if this is correct even though I got an advanced english language exam xD) forum I've ever seen.

I'm also bored.

The most effective form of excersize is one you enjoy. Whether its running, biking, weight lifting, playing football, or basketball, the most important thing is getting out and doing it.

Also a proper diet is very important. You do not have to starve yourself but you should make an effort to eat healthy foods.

Good luck.

Go on a diet. Find your TDEE and don't eat over the ammount it gives you, depending on how much pounds you want to loose per week. That is what I'm doing right now, lost 4 pounds in around 2 weeks.

I went on MyFitnessPal forums to for info.

Reducing carbohydrate in the diet is the way to go. Carbohydrate triggers the insulin response that causes the body to store carbohydrate as body fat. If you don't go over the limit at which the insulin response is triggered and fat is stored you won't put any more on and you'll actually start burning the reserves you have. I recommend reading The New High Protein Diet by Dr. Charles Clark.

It's extremely effective, as fast as healthy body fat reduction can get and it's about a hundred times easier than counting calories, plus you don't even have to do any extra exercise for it to work (even if your lifestyle is sedentary).

weight lifting builds muscle, but in my experience its best to lose body fat and then build muscle.

Yep. True. That is what I'm doing right now. Cardio and diet to loose fat, Bulk and weight lift for muscle when slim. Try getting body fat around 10 to 15% before weight lifting.

True. But it also mainly relies on your calorie intake. You body uses an ammount of calorie. So if you burn 2000 calories in a day and then eat 1500 calories, the body is gonna take enrgy from fat storage.

Absolutely, but the main source of calories are basically carbohydrates so if you monitor that you don't need to worry about counting calories. It's just much easier to monitor carbohydrates than it is calories by a massive extent.

Well, to an extent, you could totally ignore carbs and get fat and protein and still consume far more calories than you should eat. The best thing to do is find your TDEE and set only 15 to 25 percent of your calorie to carbs only.

Sure, but are you really going to eat that much meat and fat? It's good to have a little fat as it gives the body a sense of satiation so that you don't feel you need to eat more. Working out TDEE's and calorie consumption is a huge pain in the ass compared to monitoring carbohydrate intake.

If you want to go the TDEE route, that's up to you but personally I just monitor Carbs.

Calculating TDEE is as simple as entering your age, weight, height and exercise level.

Tracking calorie consumption and energy expenditure is a pain in the ass. Monitoring carbohydrate intake is relatively simple; as I say, If you want to go the TDEE route, if that's the way you want to do it it's up to you, but I personally just monitor carbohydrate intake.

Yeah, I thought it would be a pain in the ass but today you can just use your iPod touch/phone with the MyFitnessPal app and scan barcodes on the stuff you eat.

This ! I lost 40lbs last year because of that. You don't need a proper "diet" to apply this, here follow these steps:

First month : Eat only Meat&Vegetables and drink only water. Since your body is used to have a lot of carbohydrates, it will continue to burn the amount of fat relative to the amount of carbs you eat on your current nutrition, but this time you won't have the same carb intake as before so you will lose fat very fast.

I achieved 16lbs lost in the first month.

But after one month, your metabolism will be readjusted to your new nutrition, so if your start eating carbs too much, you will get fatter faster.

But you need carbs, so you just reintegrate SOME carbs into your nutrition but really low intakes. And again, only water, it's almost the most important part.

Oh yeah, in order to burn this fat you need to exercise of course, you don't need to do shit loads of cardio, but musculation and some cardio workout will accelerate your metabolism and make fat burn quicker.

Word of order : Consistency, no "cheat day" or "meh i'll drink juice or milk it's not that bad". At least for the first month.

Good luck.

I'm afraid of saggy skin. I heard losing fat too fast can cause saggy skin. :S

When you learn about and understand the concepts behind the low card diet in the book I'm recommending all you need to do is look at stuff, no phones, no ipads, no exercise or calorie burning monitoring equipment, really, you can literally just assess your carbohydrate intake as you go.

If you've found a way that works for you and you enjoy that's great, but seriously, monitoring carbohydrate intake is so much simpler.

Alright, I guess I should try it. How much carb should I limit to? It is simpler but I'm not really optimist about it.

You stay below 40 carbs for weightloss and maximum 60 in one day but 60 is pushing the limit.

It's easy when you read about it. I've not been on it for a while but it's like... apples, pears, oranges ( about 10 carbs) avoid bananas completely and grapes they're like suger-lumps, a slice of bread is about about 17 carbs etc.

There's more to it than that and you really have to read the book The New High Protein Diet but that's kind of the gist of it. Really simple, really effective.

Well that might actually be a good reason to go the TDEE route. I don't really know how the High Protein / Low Carb diet applies to sports training although I was on the diet while doing quite intense physical training every other day and really just went by how I was feeling at the time. If you start to feel your energy dropping then you're probably burning enough to let yourself eat a little more than the diet dictates.

After a while you get a feel for it. You begin to be able to tell the difference between real hunger and just craving for another sugar rush. Most people are binging and crashing all day when it comes to their blood sugar. The key is to try and keep a steady feed below the amount that's going to trigger the insulin production. You'll be able to tell how you're doing by your muscular definition. Don't weigh yourself, it's pointless, water retention / water weight fluctuation causes too much noise to get a good result. There is a correlation between people who weigh themselves and people who do loose weight but it's purely because they're motivated both to diet and to weigh themselves; in reality scales don't help, really they're useless for body shape, you have to use mirrors and just look at your muscle tone and definition.

Also, don't think of it as weight loss. When I was on the diet and training, people couldn't understand how I seemed to be getting smaller while getting much more powerful. The reality was I that I'd been loaded up with body fat and I was just getting stronger as a result of the physical training at the same time that I was loosing weight because of the diet.

Also, I've heard reported medical cases of women who were a size six and still obese in clinical terms (clinically obese) because they'd lost almost all of their muscle through conventional fad dieting; it's a concept known as being "fat-thin" or "Skinny Fat". What you want to shed is the excess body fat, not body weight in the form of muscle mass.
