Well that's the same CPU that I've got in my 7+ year old rig, so probably.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

Although old your kinda underestimating it. Once ocd it will match or even beat amds fm2+ athlons (760k etc) in most applications.

This vid shows a q6600 @3.6 GHz with a gtx 580 running bf3 64 player ultra. Its running pretty well. Also the 580 is similar in performance to the 270x. So i stand by what I said. Once over clocked to 3ghz or more you won't experience that much bottlenecking.

Single core performance is higher than AMD FX.

But you had better get that thing as close to 4GHz as you possibly can.

My FX 8120 has slightly higher single core performance than a Q6600. I do recommend overclocking it though.

In single threaded ofc. But a core 2 quad with a good overclock is still very capable. Personally a core 2 quad has an advantage over the g3258 because it has 4 cores :P

In most games it would perform much better IMO

Games are loosely threaded.

in multi threaded scenarios its still okay (once given a mild overclock), a newer cpu might give a couple of fps but of course that means buying new hardware.
in single threaded scenarios yeah it'll suck as bad as a 2.4gh core2 duo..
i sold a q6600 rig to a friend a year and half ago and hes happy with it.
got another q6600 and msi g41-p33 combo board sat around doing nothing at the moment
they're like a stock fx4100, not the most powerful things around but okay.
but for the price/7 years id say its a good value.

remember all those posts telling everyone to get an e8400 over a q6600 because all games were single threaded?

In most games ofc. Since most games use only 2 cores. IMO the core 2 quads are pretty badass. They're like 8 years old but with a good overclock they can still kick ass haha
