I do not know anything about video editing software and my dad is getting into video production. As of this point he is going to buy an imac for video editing but i wish to build a computer for him that will destroy the mac's performance. The issue is that my dad's main misgiving about windows is the software (Bad experience years ago cause this).

So my question is: is there any video editing software on windows that is better than OSX based software.

Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere Pro is multi-platform with Windows and OS X, but it does have a relatively steep learning curve. Friends that have used Sony Vegas and then tried Premiere Pro switched back to Sony Vegas because they found it easier and better to use as it has a more moderate learnng curve.

Yea but I did the opposite, whatever you start learning first will likely be the software you stick with.

Both are great options, but I have a preference for Premiere.

I guess that's true. :)

Do you have any projects (videos) that you've uploaded to YouTube or somewhere?

Not really, my commercial work isn't something I can show you (and I'm never the primary editor, I just make tiny tweaks). When I'm working on a film shoot, I guess the job I have is director. Though there's usually also a director. I just stand about really.

My personal work is not really uploaded, I'll embed a technology review at the bottom of this post, but my editing isn't anything to write home about. I'm really not great at camera stuff, I've kind of always had equipment laying around but only in the last month or so am I really learning how to use it. Tonight I'm practicing how to pull focus! My software skills are better - I can use pretty much everything in Premiere to a high degree of technical proficiency, but it's being creative and knowing what to use and how to do it (and being patient enough to do it) that is my big weakest point.

Once I get more equipment - and my personal rig is up there with the studio rigs I'm used to working with) and can have a dedicated set (I have to disassemble an entire computer to get that desk available) I will see what new stuff I can do in the tech review space as well as a few other hobby fields. I am experimenting in all sorts at the moment.
