  1. Since i made this thread to make myself feel better and it has exceptionally failed at doing that, nevertheless i have accepted the fact that i will have to purchase a second 980 if i want to have an acceptable experience, and i probably will by the end of the year. Now im going to tell you guys what ive been telling myself to feel better: Right now i have 1800 hours in Dota 2 (1800 hours and $1800, Coincidence? :^) ) which is not demanding, my other games i regularly play do not require much horsepower either. I have come to terms that i will most probably not utilize the 100Hz for a while but what i do plan on doing is looking back in 10 years and being like, "dam this has been a fucking amazing monitor" Edit: Also after 1080p the real estate will be very helpful with my programming
  2. So i have recently bought a $1800 AUD display and it is going to take almost 2 weeks to ship. To tell you the truth i am making this thread hoping someone will help me justify this purchase as i am a (now recently) poor uni student. I guess i should have an actual question, should i be upgrading my setup so i can run this beastly monitor? Cpu: i7 4770 GPU: GTX 980 Im not sure if the other specs impact that much
  3. Over the past 2 days i have been building a computer that is able to handle rendering 4k in sony vegas in a reasonable time. The specs include the following: AsRock X99 Extreme3 Intel Core i7-5820K 8GB Gigabyte R9 390 G1 Gaming G-Skill Ripjaws 32GB 2400MHz 8x4 Samsung 850 EVO M.2 120GB Seagate NAS 3TB ST3000VN000 x2 Corsair H110 280mm So my question is towards those people that are experienced sony vegas users that will know the approximate rendering times of this system when rendering 4k at 24 fps for approx 30 min of footage. Any help would be much appreciated!
  4. Warning: i am not very educated in the area of what is needed when building a video editing machine hence i am posting here Budget and Location: No real budget was given for this task, but i am saying $2000 USD as the budget. Also the location is Australia. Aim: Video editing build that is typically going to be used for 4k (30fps) videos going no longer than 30min but are able to be rendered in around 3 hours (if possible). Also keep in mind that the editing software will be sony vegas. Monitors: one 4k monitor Peripherals: Pretty basic no need to go overboard some headphones (maybe speakers i will edit this when i find out the preference) windows 10 i guess because it is coming out tomorrow Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  5. I do not know anything about video editing software and my dad is getting into video production. As of this point he is going to buy an imac for video editing but i wish to build a computer for him that will destroy the mac's performance. The issue is that my dad's main misgiving about windows is the software (Bad experience years ago cause this). So my question is: is there any video editing software on windows that is better than OSX based software. .
  6. Thankyou so much for your assistance! Also the specs of a $1600 imac would be: 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz) with 4MB L3 cache8GB (two 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 memory 1TB (5400-rpm) hard drive Intel Iris Pro Graphics (so yea pretty crap)
  7. So, here is my situation. My parents are getting pretty heavily involved in video equipment and as a result they are looking into buying a video editing computer. I recently found out they are just planning to buy a mac which means I want to do my best to save their money and build a better pc that will hopefully enlighten them (Currently every computer inside my house is a macbook of some sort [except my personal computer I made a year ago]). So, is it worth building a video editing computer for them or should I just let them buy an iMac? (I assume the answer is build one) Budget and LocationApprox the same price as a mac but if possible I would like to go cheaper as it is only going to be used occasionally. >$1500 AUD AimVideo editing. Monitors1 monitor, possibly 1440p but probably 1080p due to budget PeripheralsStandard peripherals, keyboard, mouse and speakers also need Windows OS
  8. I think my favorite thing about the m8 is the 90% metal construction making the superior build quality. (plsbasedlinusineedphone) :3
