Windows Vista

I am very reluctant to move on from Windows Vista :/ I've never had any problems with it on my old laptop I left it on all day every day for my entire year 9 at school, 100% uptime without slowing down? O.o

 

I don't really like the Taskbar in Windows 7 because it combines windows and sometimes I like having more than one window for productivity reasons. I've used Windows 8 and I actually really enjoyed the Metro thing after I got used to it but yet again the Taskbar, are there any fixes?

I'm pretty sure you can chose whether you want them stacked or side by side.

I'd get an upgrade key for Windows 8 pro. And if you don't like Metro get StartIsBack for 1-1.5$ and you'll have a sped up version Win 7 ^^

Yep you can choose if you want them stacked or side by side, with the full name or logo only

The taskbar in windows and 8 is super customizable, you just need to right click on it and press properties.

You mean like this? (Windows 7 and 8 - I am at work, so no Win8 on my system... well, I have a temporary system, but as soon as I have my permanent one, I'll put Win8. Anyway, I can't show you Win8 task bar, but it's the same, just no start button)

To do this, simplyL

 

Right-click on the taskbar, select "Properties", and go under "TaskBar button: ", select "Never Combine" in the drop down list. Hit OK.

If you're okay with Windows 8, you should definitely jump straight to it! Just customise your taskbar like how @GoodBytes showed. :)
