Stream and cuda cores are gpu cores, Stream cores are AMD and Cuda cores are Nvidia.

Whats your total budget, location, and parts parts do you already have? Also, what programs do you use?

For productivity: 4790k > Xeon E3 1231v3 > 4690k > FX8 > FX6 > i3

Any cpu out there for mainly editing, thinking of i3, or 6300 for music production, photo, and video using adobe. also what are stream vs cuda?

no cpu under 180$ is remotely sufficient for video editing. stream and cuda are whan amd and nvidia respectively call the processing cores on their gpus. Stream cores are faster in openCL whereas cuda cores use, well, CUDA.

Do you have any other components that can be reused? what about gaming? Does $500 include monitor/os/peripherals? Location?

if its for light work you can probably snag a 5800k for $100 or so. couple that with fast ram and you are good to go. No Intel processor will touch it on the graphic side unless you are going to get a graphic card as well, but with a budget of $120 dollars it doesn't sound like it.

I don't think you can snag a X99 platform CPU for $100 bucks.

i have monitor, keyboard, and os. i don't game besides csgo, and league. virgina united state. first build

I'd say bump up your budget if you can:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($181.09 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($44.79 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R9 270 2GB TurboDuo Video Card  ($131.98 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($29.98 @ OutletPC)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($32.98 @ NCIX US)
Total: $528.68 ($560~ before rebates)
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Or what might be a better option (I'm honestly not sure how cpu performance vs. gpu acceleration is in Adobe):
Go with an Intel Xeon 1231v3 + R7 240/250/250x/260 -- a Xeon E3 is an i7 without integrated graphics; so if those 4 extra cpu threads are more powerful than the extra gpu power of a 270, then a Xeon E3 would be a better choice.

And along the same lines as the previous questionable option, you could also go with a 4790k + z97 board + hyper 212 and no GPU as integrated graphics is perfectly fine for CSGO/LoL-type games, and the speed advantage of an overclockable i7 over a Xeon E3 might also yield highly beneficial results.

EDIT: If I had to take a guess, I would say the Xeon E3 1231v3 build would be the best option (for editing):

Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($44.79 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R7 240 2GB Video Card  ($59.98 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($29.98 @ OutletPC)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($32.98 @ NCIX US)
Total: $527.59

Try a 1231V3 and a low end card like R7 250X (which will handle games like cs and league fine).

Debateable. Definitely depends on how heavy the editing is. My 6300 is definitely sufficient for what I do which is light to moderate (no more than 10 tracks at a time) editing.

fair enough, he's looking for a build that's dedicated to editing though.

not talking about x99 lol. he's got a budget of 500 bucks for the system, so an APU is really a good option.

*edit* after looking at some pcpartpicker builds above I take that back...

This is very good for what you do...good CPU with lots of threads...you will need to buy an aftermarket CPU cooler as soon as possible

the stock one is fine to use but it will get loud under heavy load...just get a cooler master hyper 212 it's only 30$ and it performs great.

As you can see theres a shit ton of mail-in-rebate with this machine so you'll have to work if you want to get it at good price...

i'd let go the 10$ rebates personaly but i suggest you do the two 20$ and the 30$ for the PSU:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($138.88 @ OutletPC)

Motherboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($68.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($62.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($49.88 @ OutletPC)

Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R7 260X 2GB WINDFORCE Video Card  ($109.99 @ Newegg)

Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($29.98 @ OutletPC)

For the ram sticks it's a direct saving just enter the promo code.

Price is 549$ before rebates...487$ if you do them all...505$ or so if you do only the interesting ones.
