Most people that complained was just saying what they read somewhere, and not actually tried Vista.

Well, I actually did try all of them, even used Vista for over a year before the switch.

I certainly didn't expect Vista to run on a Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM. I did expect it to run well on average hardware (dual-core, 2GB of RAM, etc) when it came out in 2007. Which it didn't (dual-core was definitely fairly common at the time, I personally had a Q6600). Personal experience.

On the subject of OS X; the hardware might be overpriced, but the OS is good. It's more open than Windows (uses open source components), but less so than Linux. For gaming though, not as good. For other features, it's good.

Reluctantly i boot up Windows 8 to play games. This is only because Windows has the best game library and games tend to  perform better under 8 vs 7.

You guys are crazy. You know you guys are self-destructive. There's a funny farm somewhere and it's got your names written all over it. But I'm gettin' outta here.

yeah and only idiots buy macs, you know i could build a better spec pc for a 3rd of the price. personally windows is the better choice for gaming since 98% of games come out for the windows os. i am yet to find a decent game that runs on mac.

Linux may also be a choice since steam has just been released for it.

dont go for mac there not worth the box they come in.

and if you really want to use mac os build a hackintosh (despite the name your not really hacking), have a look at iatkos if mac really is your thing

I have to disagree with you there. Windows destroys OS X in gaming but in everything else it loses... The laptops they also make look the best.

MAC OS X KILLz EVERYTHINK ITS DA BEST!!!!

lol, In all seriousness id say it depends on the games you want to play, check out linus's comparison of windows 7 and windows 8 gaming comparison, write down the list of games that you play and tick which is best for those games and go with the most common....
that said I wanna go with 7 (not following the herd here just my own personal view) because i don't see the 20% hit on user ability being worth a POSSIBLE 5-10% increase...
im not going to ruin my loading times by having to dual boot (no i don't have a login password) just so i can game on 1 OS and use the other.

theres things in windows 8 i like (transfer speed graph THANK YOU), but the pain i get from not being able to just put things where i want them is a no go for me...

xp wasnt that bad and still isnt bad for a very low end rig if the user just wants to play old titles but the frame rate isnt as consistent as they are today, the peaks are higher and the troughs are lower..

Put things where you want? What do you mean?

I cant remember exactly its been a month or 2 but i remmeber i was trying to configure it so my most common programss that i would always have on the start bar would be right there for me which meant deleting every other gui link, i also often click the start key on the keyboard and type a part of what i want, tis faster than clicking on a shortcut (you can go down to start>click start> then move up> then click [insert program] or do what i do and click the start key>type [insert program] its allot faster, i coudlnt do this with windows 8 and it was very slow.

also its a paint to shut down your pc, before it was "click start>shut down".....now its go right> wait for tab to appear>click settings>click shutdown, what genius thought that would be good???

Just like with the xbox blade system being replaced by NXE what happened to backgrounds? we've have wallpapers for years, liked it and done pretty well, now i have to look left and right (with a mouse the rolls back and forth...) on something that looks like an iphone/android app draw thats always open..

im sure some will say "you just need to spend some time with it and learn how to do it" when people switched from 95 to 98 to xp to vista to 7 a mouse was a mouse a wallpaper was a wallpaper you had a start button and an X to close things, its worked well so far so learning all over again doesnt seem worth it considering im still wondering the benefits dont seem to be screaming from the hills.

switching from xp to 7 wasnt a huge learning curve this is a whole differnt ball of wax and i shall use 7 till im forced to use something else or until they fix these gripes and show some actual reason to switch, failing all this maybe id switch to linux!

Sorry, Do you understand what "Open Source" Is?

Yes OS X used Open Source Code. Only code licensed under GNU GPL 2.1 and before, Because they managed to find a loop hole that enabled them to charge for their software and not share it. Anything licensed under GNU 3.0 or newer will not be used in Mac OS because apple would have to give it away for free.

Here i'll make it easier

Open Source Code ---->  Apple gets their Mitts on it -----> No longer Open Source.

Noticed that your Mac is always fast. Its like putting windows XP on a 3970X and 16GB of Ram, with 5 SSD's in Raid0. When you run old code, Built to run on hardware from the 90's and put it on current hardware it runs beautifully.

That doesn't change what I said. OS X used open source code, and actually still does. http://opensource.apple.com/release/mac-os-x-1083/ The Darwin kernel that OS X is based on is open source. Yes, there are still some closed source components, which is why I said it was "more open" than Windows, which is basically all closed-source.

Pinning things to the taskbar isn't very difficult. If anything, it's pretty much the same process as in Windows 7.

Typing to search still works in Windows 8 as it did in Windows 7, so... yeah.

Oh, and wallpapers show up on the start screen now in Windows 8.1, and you can right-click the start button to get to shut down. Maybe you should wait for 8.1 and try it out?
