So, here is my situation. My parents are getting pretty heavily involved in video equipment and as a result they are looking into buying a video editing computer. I recently found out they are just planning to buy a mac which means I want to do my best to save their money and build a better pc that will hopefully enlighten them (Currently every computer inside my house is a macbook of some sort [except my personal computer I made a year ago]).

So, is it worth building a video editing computer for them or should I just let them buy an iMac?

(I assume the answer is build one)

Budget and Location

Approx the same price as a mac but if possible I would like to go cheaper as it is only going to be used occasionally.

>$1500 AUD

Aim

Video editing.

Monitors

1 monitor, possibly 1440p but probably 1080p due to budget

Peripherals

Standard peripherals, keyboard, mouse and speakers also need Windows OS

Thankyou so much for your assistance!

Also the specs of a $1600 imac would be:

2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz) with 4MB L3 cache

8GB (two 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 memory

1TB (5400-rpm) hard drive

Intel Iris Pro Graphics

(so yea pretty crap)

For video editing/3D Rendering/Photo Editing or anything of that sort, this is the order of importance of the hardware.

CPU>RAM>Storage setup>GPU

It's surprising but Premiere Pro (Or AE or Maya or anything like that) doesn't make much use of the GPU.

My build: tis be ordered

Premiere uses the GPU?
