TWO Swiftech 8 way splitters?

Can I run two separate Swiftech 8 way splitters in my rig? My motherboard has two 4 pin cpu fan headers

Also I've heard something about "proprietary pwm" where Corsair fans don't follow the intel standards or something?

Yes two swiftech splitters will work as long as your motherboard supports PWM on both headers, some manufacture's don't do proper PWM support so some headers will not work as PWM even if they are 4 pin headers. As for Corsair doing non-standard PWM control I've heard a little about this but I'm not totally sure about their standards, if any one else knows I'd actually be interest to know since I was planning to get PWM fans from them soon.

Thanks, friend.

I've read up on the Corsair fan thing and apparently their fans require a much stronger PWM signal than other pwm fans, and a signal booster is required for control http://forums.swiftech.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2428

This kind of angers me but hopefully there's other options. Now I know why all my fans have always been running at 1300rpm (glad they're still fairly quiet though)

I found this http://www.performance-pcs.com/modmytoys-4-pin-pwm-low-profile-power-distribution-pcb-8-way-block.html and gonna research if it's enough to handle the fans. Seems really neat

I think that is only a splitter itself and doesn't have a separate power source to power all those fans, since you don't want to overload a single PWM header with more than 1Amp approx or 3-4 fans.

  • For connection to Motherboard 4-pin PWM or 3-pin header or PSU SATA Power connector.

Unfortunately I believe the swiftech is the only mass volume one that you can find that has PWM splitter with separate power to it, other than cables that do that which are a hassle to cable manage.

There are a few others I've seen but not too many else:

Those swiftech connects both to the psu and to the mobo. At least this is the case for the one on the H240x. This is because of the pump for the most part.

@W-L

The phanteks fan hub is for 3 pin fans, while the swiftech is for 4 pin. They actually modulate speed in a different way. The 3 pin hub modulates via voltage control while the 4 pin modulates differently as voltage control can harm some pwm fans (and especially the pump in the swiftech). Also, the phanteks fan hub does not have a separate power cable, it only adds on to the header with an option sata power connector to the mobo, not the psu. This is sort of obvious as the cable for it is like 2.5 inches...

Still new, but learning

@W-L so going back to that modmytoys 8 way PCB..... Can I just hook up 8 fans to it... (well actually use two of them and hook 16 up) then... connect those PCB's to a very beastly bay fan controller...?

Yes you would be correct, I was just read PWM and assumed it was 4 pin, should probably get some sleep, getting late  :P

As long as the fan controller can take it's full wattage through two of it's connectors I don't see a problem, but it depends on the fan controller since I'm not sure if they wire it to split evenly between all connectors or is an overall wattage.

The red cap on the swiftech splitter is the one that the cpu reads and controls the rest by. Also keep the caps from the ones you use as it seems the manual and site suggest that unused ports on the splitter should have the caps on.

Thank you for trying to help, already knew that though =]
