Hey guys, I just recently upgraded my ram in my rig. Here is a list of my hardware.

Z97 PRO WITH WIFI A.C

I5 4690K O.C 4.4 -1.210 volts

EVGA 750W POWER SUPPLY

EVGA GTX780

1 TB WD BLACK

250 GB SAMSUNG 840 EVO SSD

CORSAIR H100i

PHANTOM 410 CASE

Now the ram.

Old Ram: Crucial Ballistix XT 1866 8GB- This ram ran perfectly fine since the build worked in dual channel with XMP absolutely fine. In slots A2 and B2.

New upgraded ram is:

Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866 16GB will NOT run in the recommended slots for dual channel A2 and B2. However will run in A1 and A2.

Now when I installed my ram I set my bios back to default setting so no overclock. I also reset the CMOS by removing the battery on the motherboard and completely removing the 24 pin connector. When I reset the system it posted with the new ram I thought it was good to go it reads the ram is in slots. I went to boot and it gave me the same screen you get when a overclock doesnt have enough power the blue screen with the frown it just kept looping. So uninstalled the new ram and put my old ram back in. It booted no problems. Keep in mind I was always using A2 and B2 slots recommended slots for dual channel. So than I decided to test my new ram. I installed one dimm at a time on A2 both new dimms successfully booted windows. So I called Asus they said they have been experiencing problems with certain brands of ram running in the recommended dual channel slots A2 and B2. He told me to try A1 and A2 slots with the new ram. It worked he said to keep it like this tell a update for bios comes out. My bios is up to date with the software.

Now has anyone experienced this problem? My computer runs ok now I guess. When I play games now sometimes I get bad frame drop and graphics are kinda glitchy it seems. Is anyone running this ram? Should I return my board or new ram? Is asus right should I wait for a bios update? Don't know but I'm lost. Thanks

If you just got the RAM I would return it and get a different kind, preferably some of the same brand as your existing set (Crucial) for best compatibility.

Well Asus states that the new ram I bought is compatible. I bought it through new egg it would be a pain in the butt to return. I thought about crucial ram again but I really like the red color ram I bought. My new build in a month is going to be asus rog board so im trying to keep the red.

maybe try updating the BIOS

newer BIOS revision may fix certain issues with different brand of RAM not allowing the system to boot

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
