Concerned About Cloud Imperium Games

Hello everyone, 

 

 I was just searching the web about Cloud Imperium Games and I found this site called Glassdoor. Apparently, on this site employees can rate the company they work at. It's supposed to be a tool to help people looking for a job. I read some of the reviews of CIG, and found that people aren't being treated fare (sometimes). I was personally shocked because I always had the impression that working at CIG was a dream come true. Oh well, I guess this is the reality... I just want to know what you guys/ gals think about this. I don't mean to be whiny or anything, I just want to generate some discussion. Thanks for reading this long thing!

People are really picky about how they think they're being treated, fair or not. A decent amount of people have this magical idea that working for a development studio is like looking at the best place on Earth, it's an office and is treated as such. So those people have their bubble's burst and complain about it.

That's odd, considering most of the people who work on CIG have vocal (or rather, textual?) inputs on the forum in some way or another. If people were unhappy at CIG, why would a lot of them decide to stay over Christmas/their breaks to work on the game for free? Seems a little weird, to be honest.

 

But as AlwaysFSX said, some people seem to think working in a game studio is supposed to be like Cloud Nine. It isn't. It is a work space just like any other work space.

This is true, there are tons of CIG members on reddit, and Redditors are known to be vocal about problems, and I haven't heard any from them.

It's typical, not everywhere is perfect, not even at Valve, but that's just how it is, you can't expect the best from any studio, and people that write these reviews tend to go into the company thinking it was something else, then end up seeing it for what it really is. You don't see a ton of people posting positive reviews about working there. There's been same reviews from Valve and Rockstar on the same site, and you generally tend to see the bad reviews and not the good ones.

Its somewhat concerning to read but with only 4 (anonymous) reviews its hardly what I would call a good sample especially when you will find that people that are unhappy about something will tend to be the ones looking for an outlet to voice their opinions while the contempt will keep on doing what they are doing. I do imagine the work there is highly stressful though, people will get worn out and when that happens and you don't move on because its become routine everything starts to look bad in your eyes (been there done that but now know when to move on ).

I really hope that isn't the majority view but we have no idea what's going on behind closed doors as all we really get to see is a small sample of the staff and their time. At the end of the day as much as I would like the staff to be happy in their work its their choice to work there and as long as the game keeps progressing as it has I'll be happy - as selfish as that sounds you cant concern yourself with strangers life choices.
