If the hyperx clouds hurt your head then I would just give up...

In all seriousness if you are going to spend $200+ on a headset go for these http://eu.audio-technica.com/en/products/product.asp?catID=5&subID=60&prodID=4471

They will never hurt your head

what is that directed towards?

astro is like razer, if you want sound you do not look at them, if you want style and swag then sure maybe.

how is the mic quality?

My brother has the A40's with the mixamp and it's the most overpriced garbage. I told him to put my HD280's on and listen while we had the mixamp and headset plugged into my PC after he bought it, and he tells me "Well they just sound different is all." No shit.

The sound signature is roughly similar to the HyperX Clouds according to my ears; the audio isn't as clear as I would expect a headphone to be in the price range of the A40, so the Clouds have that over the A40's being $50 cheaper (just for the headset). The A40's are also heavier, thus I would expect them to be even more uncomfortable for you.

Mic quality is also garbage. I think Linus did a review of it. Will edit.

EDIT: This is the A50, but yeah

I know of two people that both bought them and one returned them within 24 hours and the other had his set crap out within a year. Personally never tried them but to me its a pretty good indicator.

I had the A40s. The A40's paired with the mixamp where not the worst, but def not worth the amount of money you spend on them. They are slightly muddy and have a little more bass than I would have liked for gaming. Directional sound wasn't terrible, I had no problems hearing footsteps in cs:go, however it did take some time to get used to them. I purchased the Schiit stack DAC/Amp and it got rid of some of the muddiness from the headphones. Comfort wise the A40's were a little heavier than I would have liked. It caused me a little bit of discomfort until I got used to them. Mic quality can be decent, I've seen many streamers using A40's and the mic sounds decent.

I switched to the Massdrop AKG 7XX, and haven't looked back. Clarity, comfort, and directional sound so much better on these headphones.

For the amount of money you are spending on the A40's it's not worth it.

I have Astro a40 2013 edition. They are very comfy I can wear them for hours!

They sound good with the foam insert behind the tag but the bass is not very present.

the mixamp is fine for console but when it comes to pc it's a waste of money...

you need a ddl capable sound card to fully take advantage of it and again mine as serious issues...

the mic going thought the mixamp just sound like crap.

If I would have to make a choice again I would get something else.

I don’t hate them but the price is not justified

I would take the Plantronics rig mixer with the Astro headset before buying a mixamp again.

the only thing I really like about the mix amp is the voice/game volume but apart from that I would say don’t waste your money on it for pc gaming.

Coming to this sub-forum asking if headset is okay is almost like asking people if pepsi is alright even when you have coke (especially mexican coke). No, at $200 you could get away with better products. HD558, HD598, AKG K612, Sony MDR7506, Audio technica M40X, Sony MDR-1R, Beyer DT770 and there's still more.
