I need help troubleshooting a pc, I ran out of ideas.

Specs:

  • A8 6600K
  • FM2A55M-HD+
  • 4GB Kingston HyperX Blu 1333Mhz CL9
  • Kingston V300 120 GB
  • Thermaltake Munich 430W
  • Windows 7 HE 64 Bit

Problems:

  • Bluescreens (photo below)
  • Monitor going black suddenly
  • Everything freezes, you can't move the mouse and the sound stops

When pressing the power/resetbutton after a bluescreen, it just restarts and gets one of the above problems after a short time.

When the monitor froze or went black, pressing the power/resetbutton will do nothing. I had to turn off the psu, press the power button once and then turn it back on to work.

I've tried it multiple times, the monitor just stays black when starting the pc, that is new.

Tried Fixes:

  • Dust build-up in pc, couldnt check temperatures but they should be fine.
  • Using a 2-month old recovery point
  • I've tried all the stuff like restarting it, using another power socket etc.
  • I ran windows memory analyzation crap (i know it's not very good).

These problems have been there for around four weeks, but it only crashed occassionally and we thought it would be a problem in his power circuitry.

He didn't install new programs or anything and avira didnt find any malware either.

I tried to do Windows Update but it immediately crashed.

I forgot to mention, there was an error code before but my friend can't remember it and now it's just silent, no error codes.

The motherboard supports up to 100W CPU's and the 6600K has a 100W TDP. Would that be a problem?

PLEASE HELP! I build this pc for a friend and it would be nice if I could get it to work properly again.

Do you have any other DDR3 memory to try?

No, not really.

I'd have to use the memory that's in my main system at the moment. I am going to try that, thanks!

When testing, try all four DIMM slots and see what experience(s) you get.

Have you looked up the blue screen code with a blue screen checker program?

0x50 BSOD's are usually attributed to faulty RAM or L2 cache, I would run Memtest86 on your RAM and see if it errors, if it does then you'll want to RMA your RAM.

To run Memtest86, go here to download it clicky

If you have a DVD drive and a spare CD then download that version, otherwise download the USB bootable version. (You'll need to follow a seperate guide for the USB version)

Burn the CD version to a blank disc and boot to it and let it run for at least 2 passes or until you get errors, whichever comes first.

If you get errors then shut down the PC and take out all of your RAM but 1 stick and retest.

If it doesn't error, then shut down and test the same RAM in a different slot and keep doing this until you've tested that stick in all the slots, and then try again with the next stick and so on until you've narrowed it down to which stick causes the problems.

If only one stick gives errors then you can usually just replace that one, but you'll probably want to replace both to prevent compatibility issues

If they all give errors then you'll need to replace the RAM and retest with the new stuff.

If you still get errors then the culprit will be either the CPU or the Motherboard.
