Hello,

I will be upgrading a 2 year old system soon (when I have enough money). I do quite a bit of gaming (planning on more) alot of online activity, blogging, and tones of general use. I also plan on OC'ing at some stage.

What sort of motherboard/ CPU and memory would be good for this

Akasa Venom Viper Full Tower Case | Intel i7-3930k @ 3.20Gh | Corsair 240Gb GT SSD Raid 0 | Samsung 23" LED 1080p FULL HD (x2) MSI Big Bang-ZPower II Socket 2011 XL ATX Board | Gigabyte GTX 680 | Windows 8.1 Pro | WD Caviar Red 3Tb HDD | Akasa Venom Voodoo high Performance CPU Coolerr | TP Link Wireless N DualBand | Pioneer BDR optical Drive | Corsair Vengance 16Gb Ram

people would suggest intel core i5 k edition and a z97 mobo which is pretty much a go to build these days, but for an limited budget go for amd and gpu i would recommend any 900 series gpu from nvidia but keep an eye on r9 300 series cards.

mobo = msi z97 z97 gaming 5 + intel 4690k + gpu of your choice

mobo2 = msi 990fx + fx 8350 for an extreme budget + gpu of your choice

CPU: FX8320 @ 4.2GHZ, GPU: R9 390 PCS+Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo, MotherBoard: ASRock 970 Extreme 3 r2.0, PowerSupply: EVGA 600b 80+Bronze, Storage: seagate Barracuda 1TB SSHD & Case: Corsair Carbide 200r

He didn't have a budget at the time...

OT: This is the higher I would go. If you want to spend another $1k, get a custom watercooling loop.

No, you said for "extreme budget" go AMD/990fx, fx series chips are shit for gaming, and if he was on an extreme budget,4790k/z97 is a far better choice.

You said extreme but meant limited, sorry I misunderstood you.

As for OP, I reccomend a 4790k/z97 setup, with any ram kit that is 16gb. And that'll leave you plenty of money left.

Edit:what the hell, I thought I saw extreme on there. Whatevs, fx is still poo

FX CPUs aren't terrible, they just aren't good for gaming or other low threaded applications.

Their only real application is a low-low budget workstation.
