My first build!

Go to solution Solved by A Bubble,

You're not gonna get any bottlenecks, though I don't see why you got a 4770k with a H97 board.

I am planning on building my first pc. I have chosen an i7 4770k processor and a GTX 970. Total price is only around £900 and that seems a little too cheap for the expected performance; I'm just wondering if I have gone too cheap on the other components as I don't want any bottle necks in my new system.

My build:

Processor - Intel core i7-4770k 3.5GHz Quad-core processor

Motherboard - MSI H97 Guard-Pro ATX LGA1150 motherboard

Memory - Corsair vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 memory

Storage - Kingston SSDNow V300 series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive & Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Video Card

Case - Corsair Air 540 ATX Mid Tower Case

PSU - Corsair CX 750w 80+ Bronze certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Why are you getting the H97 board with an unlocked chip?

Firstly, you can go with a lower wattage PSU unless you're thinking about SLI.

Secondly, where's the cooler? You really don't want to go with stock cooling on the CPU.

You really don't want to go for the Kingston V300. Go with a Samsung 840 or 850 series SSD instead.

If you're going with the 4770k, there's very little benefit with going 97 instead of 87, so you should really go Z97 with the 4790k for improved temps and slightly improved performance, with much higher headroom for overclocking.

Sig under construction.

Oh yea, you should probably get a higher quality but lower wattage PSU.

i woad go wight z97  mob since you can oc and dont get refrance gpu get aftermarket cooler so you have better oc and temps

Reference coolers from NVIDIA are actually decent. Aftermarket coolers aren't the be all end all to graphics cards. Sometimes reference coolers are useful for tight builds(like that Nova build)

Nope, those aftermarket coolers heat up everything inside the case. Seeing he is using a stock cooler, that is not going to be an option.

Thanks for all of your feedback, i've decided to get the z97 version of that board after seeing these posts and doing a bit of research, the z97 is better for me. The stock CPU cooler I may replace as I don't want my CPU to overheat but I'm not planning on overclocking, I may eventually but probably not, however with the z97 the option is there so really should I stay with the stock cooler, some are saying there not good but if I can cope with stock cooler for now then possibly get an H100i later that will be fine or should I purchase an air cooler such as the cooler master hyper 212 evo? The case I will be getting will be something such as the corsair air 540 so I could put some extra fans in it instead however I may get a bigger case for longer gpu's Id prefer window, I have a budget of around £100 for a case, any suggestions?!

Also im gonna get 16gb later on as I would be using this pc to also do a lot of video editing as well as gaming but at the moment I will stick with 8 to get the price down a bit for now. I'm also going to upgrade the cpu and get the 4790k instead of the 4770k! Is it worth possibly down scaling the graphics card and getting some quicker ram so im not stuck at 1600-1888MHz or even get a less expensive cpu, possibly revert back to the 4770k? my budget was supposed to be around £800 but possibly could push it to about £950 if I must, minus the OS and case! Im going to stick with this power supply as later on I may upgrade etc. so I have a little extra power to play with!
