VGA max resolution

I have a 1600x900 monitor plugged into the VGA post on the back of my motherboard as well as a DVI one. The DVI works fine but the VGA will only work a 1440x900. Why is that, because VGA max resolution should be 1080x1200.

you can create a custom resolution in NVIDIA/AMD Control Panel

How does that work. I can set it to 1600x900 but when i do that the monitor just goes black

Yea i though i had that on the first motherboard i had so i sent it back and got it replaced but the new motherboard just has the same problem

I know VGA can go up to at least 1920x1080, so it's not the VGA that's at fault.

I have 2 monitors so one is with DVI and one is with VGA

Yea it the monitor has worked a 1600x00 on my laptop plugged into VGA but it doesn't work on my desktop

a8 6600k, gigabyte ga-f2a88xm-ds2, zalman 500w, 8gb kingston 1600mhz beast ram.

are you sure that your GPU support that resolution via VGA?

Also if you can plug it in DVI why would you want to use VGA?

 I dont have a GPU only a APU so i have to plugged it into the motherboard and i have 2 monitors so one with DVI and one with VGA

Yes it goes with DVI and i have swapped over the monitors and both don't work with VGA

Its not the cable because it works with my laptop

it wont even work at all now with i plug in the vga both screens go black and then the DVI one goes into standby mode

There are no monitors at that res so I guess it doesn't really matter.
