Aight I'm building a dedicated streaming PC for a 2 PC setup. My question is what CPU. I don't want to spend more money than I have to to get the same quality. I'm partial to Intel because that's what I have used in my previous builds. But I am looking for options. I understand the i7 4790k is probably my "best" option but again looking for coat effectiveness. Thanks for looking!

An i5 should be fine too.

Just give some answers:

But still keep in mind that the 4790k beats the 8350 for multi threaded and single threaded applications.

Thanks for the replys so far. Yeah that's what I'm getting at. Do I really need an i7? I know i7 has hyper threading for more multifuction but literally all this pc is doing is streaming at 1080/30 with maybe 1-2 other windows up. So for 100$-150$ less for an i5 actual do what i want.

If you want just one machine the 5960x is like the perfect cpu for that, just costs a small fortune.

Terve!
I've seen benchmarks that show FX 8350 handling the streaming as well as i7s.

So I recommend you to go 8350 or 8320. Especially if you can overcloock that thing, you will have a good gaming experience.

Also, 8350s are cheaper than the 4790k and I always tell people to get a Nocua "Super Tower" cooler like the NH-D14 or the NH-D15, because you can use it after an upgrade no matter what.

With the extra headroom of the Nocua based OC you will be fine with streaming.

Can you tell me what games you want to stream?

If I have them as well, I can try with my own 8350 (and GTX 760).

Let me clear some air.

1 - If you wish to put some solid compression on your stream, you WANT an i7 OR you want a heavily overclocked 8350. That 8350 should be at least 4.8GHz to begin competing with a 4770K at stock, however, so know that a single 4790K will forever surpass an 8350.

2 - i5s are okay and all, but you're likely going to need to overclock it to pour on the compression properly. Want an i5 to match a 3.5GHz i7? Clock it to 4.4GHz. Want an i5 to match a 4GHz i7? Ain't happening with any safe OC level.

3 - 1080p is far more demanding on a CPU, but also needs compression. If this is what you plan to stream, and you plan to do any even halfway decent-graphics or fast motion games, I DEFINITELY suggest the i7.

Of course, if you don't care about fine tuning quality and were just going to use 1080p/30fps/default settings, then get whatever you want I guess. If you're a quality perfectionist like me, AND even moreso if you're not a partner on twitch and can't simply toss 3500 bitrate at something, you're likely going to want to pump the compression on.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
