Integrated graphics

Go to solution Solved by Spev,

Btw guys thanks for the tips. I did find a better solution though, grabbed my old GTX580 and plopped it in there for now until my 980 comes!

Do I have to setup anything to use integrated gfx? My CPU is 4790k and board is Asus z97-a. Waiting for my GTX980 to come and wondering if it's even worth playing games at all? Or should I just not waste my time playing without a dedicated GPU. I've never even ran a desktop without a dedicated GPU before soo idk how it works.

Current PC build: [CPU: Intel i7 8700k] [GPU: GTX 1070 Asus ROG Strix] [Ram: Corsair LPX 32GB 3000MHz] [Mobo: Asus Prime Z370-A] [SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB primary + Samsung 860 Evo 1TB secondary] [PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750w 80plus] [Monitors: Dual Dell Ultrasharp U2718Qs, 4k IPS] [Case: Fractal Design R5]

if i'm not mistaken, you just plug in the display cables to the motherboard.

the games depend on what you're playing. if it's bf4 or something, you might be able to play at a lowered res. something light like cs:go or LoL will be perfectly fine.

I've been using my i5 4690K for gaming as I have not had a dedicated GPU for the 3 or so months that I have had my PC, and its worked just fine at 1680x1050 for most games, I can run skyrim on minimum settings and get 30-60fps most of the time, so its pretty decent, world of tanks runs nicely too, though games such as hitman absolution or tomb raider don't run very well.

Tomorrow my Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming will be arriving, first game I plan to use it on is Skyrim :P

If you don't have a GPU in the system, just plug the monitor into the mobo video output and you're pretty much good to go, though be sure to install the intel hd graphics drivers.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

I game on iGPU, so yes, it is possible and it is playable. Just don't expect anything higher than Low on newer games.

And it should just work straight away after you plug in the monitor and download the driver first boot. Though you should know the Intel HD Graphics driver is sort of broken right now. It forces games into a square full screen or windowed mode. It will be fixed,  but probably not before you get your GPU.

Was in similar situations..

No Dedicated (RMA), wanted to play BF4 online.

I ALSO am using iGPU Quicksync to record the gameplay it's also pumping out.

I had 1866Mhz Memory, I clocked the iGPU Core to 1.6Ghz (Added voltage and stability tested)

The iGPU was then at 1600Mhz/933Mhz

I overclocked my memory to 2133Mhz for iGPU 1600/1066Mhz

@ 1024x768 @ low-Medium-High Mix (High Mesh=Drawdistance) and High Textures but mostly at Medium I was sustaining min35fps-max90FPS with averages of 45-65fps.

Sure, it didn't look great, comparable to say XB360/PS3 style graphics/resolution, but then upping the GFX fidelity with in game options.

Was sustaining FLUID FPS for online competitive gameplay.

just curious, why did you buy a 980 if you have a 970?

Probably a mess up in either the sig or the post? Or maybe the GPU he has is for another computer and doesn't want to take it out?

^ I overclocked my iGPU to 1400MHz + RAM @ 1600Mhz and am able to game in BF3 at 40-50 FPS with an occasional 60FPS @ 1366x768. BF4 gets 36-42FPS @ 1366x768. All with edited Low-Med settings. Pretty cool. :D

EDIT

Wow...what is up with the double post? Sorry about that guys.

I did run into problems when using higher resolutions on the HD4600, stuttering mess n such (pretty obvious its pushing limits), taking it down a notch or two resolution wise, cleared all that up and gives smoother delivery of frames.

I went with the EVGA step up program. Lets you upgrade your GPU within 90 days of purchase, and all you have to do is pay the difference between the 2 cards, you don't lose any value on your old GPU. Awesome deal, I used my 970 for like 2 months, and decided I wanted to go with the 980. Main reason was that I have had all the parts for my custom loop sitting here for about a month now, but the problem is there was no GPU block for my GTX 970 FTW with its PCB. I got really tired of waiting, and I'm not planning on upgrading my GPU for quite some time. Figured I may as well put in the extra cash, up to the 980, then I would be able to get my EK water block and setup my custom loop.

So that is why :) I will update sig once I get my 980 received.

I was thinking about trying that H1Z1 game, might have to run on low settings tho, seems everyone is super hype about it! I never played DayZ but always wanted to try it.

EVGA is pretty underrated on these forums in particular, not sure why.

Yea. When people ask the daily question, "What 970?1/!??!?". I see some people here mention everything under the sun and leave out EVGA, blows my mind.
