there's a Tiny cpu and then a big spiky thing... Is that the heatsink? If I have a cooler (dark rock pro 3), what do I do with this?

No, you're using your Dark Rock Pro 3 instead. Just remember, you have to install a cooler before turning the system on at all (and also don't forget to apply thermal paste -- if it's not already pre-applied).

you won't use it but no point chucking it away, keep it in the box (and keep the box of course).

Use it as an ugly paper weight and save the box just in case. The stock cooler is there in case someone plans to use a cpu and not get their own cooler.

That's the free coaster/paperweight that intel includes with their box processors... It also doubles as a heatsink if you don't have one yet...
