Hey Forum,

Have you guys had any experience with these headphones? I plan on attaching the mod mic to one of these and using it as a headset. The only problem is that I don't know which to get. The 700x are a successor to the 700's but have they improved enough to be worth the extra $40? Input is always appreciated. Thanks

not many people buy the same headphone twice. despite the refresh.

well there is that one guy who bought the 3 versions of the dt990

still at $40 more its a bargain in the soundstage department the akg 701 doesnt dip that low. there might be a sennheiser that fights in that price bracket.

I used to have the AD700 (actually still do, I don't use it much) and I bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 80ohm. The DT770 is closed dynamic with a lot more bass but a little heavier than the AD700. I cannot vouch for the AD700x but I really liked the AD700 for FPS gaming (where bass didn't matter for me).

I guess this is true. I like the color design a lot better. But honestly, this doesn't matter to me. I just a lot of reviews online about these headphones. The only reason I am cautious about this refresh is because I had some turtle beach x11's and my brother got the x12's and they were not as good as the 11's. I just don't want to make this mistake. If you know what i mean.

I'd guess the sound improvements to be minor, and the visual improvements to be minor, thus adding to a slightly larger than minor price bump. :)

akg's refreshes to their 701 702 and 65th anniversary refreshes have been mostly cosmetic

same can be said for the audio technica m50 red white and silver 50th anniversary edition models.

the audio technica refreshes on their ws models were improvements on design which I will vouch for as I have the ws55 and I think it will replace my m50 because that cheapo headphone is kicking the m50's ass in sound.

when these companies do things they don't make them worse unlike those beaches.

I have the 900x, and honestly if the 700x is anything like em I'd say then yea get em.  The soundstage on the 900x is amazing, they have a really airy and breath-like feel to them.
