Comcast Internet service

So on jan 21 i will be switching from centurylink to comcast.I decided to this because centurylink is a complete piece of crap and comcast is my only other options. When i look at reviews everyone who gives a review is only reviewing how crap the actual setup was but i think i can handle that. What i need to know is how good the actual internet is. i will be using my own router and modem and am wondering a few things. One question o have is if change my routers channel to something that isnt being used in my area will i experience slower internet speed (like other people do) during busy internet hours? also does comcast internet drop often? I live in the Seattle area and i am getting a 25 5 package.

I have CenturyLink and love them. But just leave channels alone, you're router should automatically configure them.

...No. CL runs off of a phone line, you can't convert a cable modem to a DSL. It doesn't work that way.

These questions are very hard to answer it all comes down to what technology comcast is using in your area it could either be Fiber, VDSL or HFC if its fiber you shouldn't get any drop outs, but if its any of the others u can as it depends on how old your copper is and how far away from the node you are. HFC from what ive heard has terrible congestion problems but that is dependent on how much bandwidth comcast provides.

It's an FTTN line that runs phone line the last mile. The VDSL runs over fiber to the DSLAM where it's distributed to the residents.

Exactly not fiber if it was FTTP you wouldn't have drop outs, it wouldn't be dependent on how far away u are from a node or how old your copper is to determine the quality of service.

Yea ok i think i will go with Comcast because the fastest package CL offers Here is 20 1 and i need a higer UP speed right now so yea,,,, i dont have a big choice unless i wanna deal with that low speed.

Yea Fiber to the NODE not to the PREMISE (FTTP) with FTTN u still have to deal with the cons of copper!!!

 

With your logic thats like saying my dsl is fiber because theres fiber at the exchange then copper from there to my house.

Yea and guess what u cant even get 1gbps unless your super close to the node like basically 1 person in your whole street will ever get that 1gbps also i highly doubt they laid brand new copper last year since that would of cost the same if not more than fiber lol oh and fiber nearly has infinite through put limit unlike copper so again its still not fiber lol

... we don't have that package. CL doesn't have the capacity to even attempt that here, we only have a 100d/50u package and that's as high as the teir goes until they start doing FTTH because a gbit package IS in the works.

No VDSL does not work with fiber its only for copper which is how i knew u didnt have fiber! the fiber to your node would be using something like GPON which won't work with copper these techs were made specifically for each cable just like u will drop VDSL when u get your 1gbps it will change to G.fast unless they lay new fiber. First, I never once stated I had a fiber line to my house, that's why I've said 'FTTN'. Second, caps mode? Rly? Third, copper isn't bad, you know that ethernet is copper, right? Look at how well it's doing. Copper isn't bad, once you get out of it's reccomended range, THEN it's bad.

You said you had a VDSL FIBER LINE. Yes really. Copper is terrible it has limited speed and limited by range, also it corrodes and degrades. An Ethernet cable isnt in a hole in the dirt with moisture, humidity and rotting from rain. Phone lines were never designed to be used for the internet and they should of been replaced years ago.
