Looking for the best Gaming PC config @ 1,000$ using MicroCenter, Newegg, NCIX, and Amazon. Trying to save a PC gamer from falling to the level of console peasant. Also take the availability of the MicroCenter CPU+Motherboard combos into account as a way to reduce pricing.

Location: North East United States

Budget: 1000$ USD

No peripherals, No Monitor, No OS

Leaves you ~$70 to pick a case of your liking.

The Xeon is basically just an I5, but with hyperthreading enabled for better multitasking capacity.

Going with a Xeon is quite a risk, w/o on-board GPU it requires a dedicated GPU to drive the monitor, if it dies you will not be able to use your rig at all until your GPU is fixed, only with a rig used mainly for rendering should a Xeon is recommended over an i5

Except that for the cost of an I5 and nearly the performance of a lower end I7 there is no real reason not to go with the Xeon. If your graphics card dies on you i doubt you're going to be doing anything at all on your rig anyway (I don't really consider that a valid point IMO, but i see how others might disagree)

The fact is the Xeon is not just for rendering. If you're going to be doing any amount of multitasking then it will kill the I5 in every scenario.
