I'll buy this SSD:

HyperX 240GB FURY SATA3 2,5" SHFS37A/240G

It says capacity is 240 GB. But even my 8 year old HDD says it has 200gb however there's only 186gb available!

Long ago I bought a micro SD card for my phone (16gb) and there's only 14gb available to use.

So in this case, - since I never ever had SSD's - will I be able to use 240gb or there'll be only 200gb or less available?

You only really need an SSD for your OS and most used programs, most of the time 120GB is fine.

You would then use your HDD for games etc.

Unless you are using it for your OS it will be 240gb. The reason you see those things is due to the fact that some of that space is occupied by software like windows

But how can I use a HDD and an SSD in the same time? There are 2 things plugged into my HDD now. 1 small connector and 1 L shaped one from PSU.

I got more of those L shaped ones but only 1 of that small thing.

Your motherboard has four SATA ports, you might need to buy another cable if you don't have one.

One like this:

Ah np I'll be using SSD only. If at least 200gb is available after installing Windows 7 I'll be glad. My HDD has 186gb available out of 200gb and windows takes like 5gb so 181 gb available in total....so this SSD will have more space than my 9 y old hdd. Still better.

The difference between the listed capacity and the format capacity of any drive is different. This is because Windows takes about 6.85% (not 7% as thought) of your drive's space when it formats it. This would mean that a 240GB SSD's formatted capacity would be exactly 223.56GB.

It's sucks, but unfortunately that's the reason of why you don't get the full capacity of any storage drive.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

The difference between size listed and actual capacity is because companies use a literal Gigabyte, 1000^3 bytes,

Where as an actual Gigabyte is 1024^3 bytes, which is what the computer will look for, leaving a more noticeable difference on larger drives

But anyway, why not use both the SSD and HDD? Increase storage, put your OS and programs on the SSD to increase speed?

I'll show you...

There are 2 cables connected to HDD.

Check the red circle. That's the smaller connector. I only have ONE of that.

The blue circle shows the 4-pin molex cable. I have more of those.

I also have these L shaped cables which are meant to be used with SSD's or laptop HDD's.

Again, I only have one of that cable which is in red circle so I don't think I'd be able to use HDD and SSD in the same time.
