Ok so its about time that I need to replace my current mouse. I currently have an Logitech LX3 Optical mouse from ~2007. At the time it was around $60 when new if I remember correctly.

I've been browsing around for mice and even got a chance to try the Logitech Proteus Core and Corsair M65 from two of my friends. I hate the feel of the Proteus core. It isn't comfortable, but on the other hand the M65 is a laser mouse. I personally like to palm grip my mice or palm/claw mix, but never claw grip. My current LX3 is an ambidextrous mouse, and I have medium sized hands if it matters. Not a fan of huge mice that weigh a lot.

So do you guys have any recommendations?

In specific I am looking for:

  • Optical sensor
  • Omron Microswitches
  • Tilting scroll wheel

Now, it seems I may have narrowed down my search to the Zowie Gear EC EVO: http://www.zowiegear.com/index.php?i=product&p=4

Any feedback on that mouse in specific? Any other recommendations?

Only negatives I'm reading about are things about pickyness of mousepads. People complaining about how it strays from the Zowie norm of amazing build quality everywhere. This does not use a braided cable nor does it have fancy packaging. If that matters to you then elsewhere is probably where you should look.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Do you have any recommendations for a Zowie mouse? If not, what would you suggest? I've also been thinking about a some Roccat mice. Unfortunately, I don't think any of my local stores stock Roccat to test out the mice.

I can't say that I don't recommend any Zowie mouse. They're superb. I say that your original choice was quite good. Just use a decent mousepad and remember all the money you saved by not purchasing the pretty boxes of the higher-end stuff.

If you want another hyper-accurate sensor then the Corsair M45 is quite good, although I'm not sure it will suit your grip quite as well. The usual Logitech G502 and (if you really want that great sensor) Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical are options, although the OMRON switches are negated on the Wheel Mouse as well as tilt-to-scroll sideways in the M45.

EDIT: Also no tilt-to-scroll sideways in the Wheel Mouse.

MORE EDIT: No Proteus Core (of course I didn't read your original statement thoroughly...). You say the M65 isn't really your fit? M45 won't fit too well either.

I will edit some more...

Alrighty, short list of mice you might like. I still vote Zowie as that seems to be more your sort but here are some options.

Logitech G602.

Mionix Naos 7000.

Steelseries Rival (I'm no expert about this mouse but I see good reviews, optical sensor and a Zowie-like design).

Might find more although these come immediately to mind.

Its funny. I was actually just looking at both the Mionix Naos 7000 and the Steelseries Rival just now. I was also thinking about the Logitech G402.

I know I can always check out the Steelseries and Logitech mice at Fry's Electronics or Best Buy. Might have to make a stop at microcenter and see if they have any Mionix mice on hand.

All in all, I'm worried about loosing my left/right scroll click. I use it often in large documents or when I have code up on my monitor. I guess I may have to learn to live without it if I get a mouse that doesn't have that feature :( .

EDIT: I don't mind the fit of the M65, its the laser sensor which is downer...

I cannot go back after my Logitech M500 came with side scrolling. It's so damn useful in so many things.

Also, the G402 feels much the same as the 502 so I would suggest maybe not going for that.

Alrighty, hope I was useful and hope you have a great day! Questions about mice and keyboards in the future are welcome!
