I'm surprised it doesn't use more.

Usually for me it uses up all the ram I throw at it.

Premiere caches your work constantly if you don't have enough ram to store essentially everything that is occurring for preview/playback etc.

 

This is a complicated situation. In some cases the workflow may be too large to store in RAM due to the minimum needed space in memory for the given task. Content may be written/scratched to disk due to the available memory being less than required.

 

Also premiere makes regular saves to disk automatically. So the disk i/o could mean periodic saves. Hard to tell from only a screenshot really.

Don't use chrome. That could help.
