Disabling Gigabyte B85 voltage limit?

Go to solution Solved by runit3,

DS3H. And I was afraid of updating to latest as I heard it gets rid of the overclocking. Maybe that was for a different board though.

The DS3H lists version F6 as "Improving Intel K-sku CPU performance", which I would assume means overclocking. The D3H version F14 explicitly states, "CPU Vcore voltage option up to 1.8v". It appears that with any Gigabyte B85 board you're going to have to update the BIOS version to enable OCing past 1.2v.

Currently overclocked my G3258 to 4.2GHz at 1.2v, with my current settings can't go any higher without crash. I believe it is the voltage, unless someone knows what else I could try? I remember seeing a way to disable the voltage limit, but forgot what it was called. Temp is 40c on idle and max 65c using stock cooler. (Ordered the evo, will be here soon)

Core ratio is 42, uncore is 38, and using SB PLL

Seems like it didn't work, and it wasn't supported on the motherboard. Hopefully someone knows what it is called.

Which specific model of the GA-B85M ? there's usually a D3H/D2V/DS3H/etc. after it. In any case, you'll need to update the BIOS to the most current version.

I think, the same issue is at B85M-D3H too. Limit of voltage up to 1.2 vcore. And of course, there is more changes not good for customers ,-) (VRM etc)

Yeah ok, I can update it. So do you think updating to the latest would be a good idea?

Updating the BIOS will set all your BIOS setting back to default. This happens to ALL motherboards. There is no way to avoid it.

You are basically erasing the memory of the motherboard and putting something new in to replace it (like in the movies when they erase your brain).

All you have to do is go into the BIOS, and write all your settings down on a piece of paper...or take a few pictures.

That is no problem, remeber most of them. Just wanting to know if the latest bios would help with overlocking. Which by @runit3 post seems like it.

If you're trying to OC past 1.2v it appears to be the only choice.

Got it, was worried that it disables overclocking as I have seen something like that on forums. But will do it, and flash it back if there is a problem. Thanks!
